Discovered the M1 last week, now I'm in love. Wanted to jump in and ask some questions about a build I'm considering.
Goals: Stylish 1080p gaming, air-cooled, bang-for-buck parts. Low-to-moderate noise. Fast SSD for general quality-of-life, room to add slot-load blu-ray player.
Questions...
It was a gift from someone special, so even if I can't get the original back a replacement would still mean a lot to me. And I've been having a hard time finding one.
I'm looking for one of these:
After draining perhaps one too many, I accidentally sent one of my very favorite shot glasses careening off the counter and all over the kitchen floor. Whoops.
I'm offering $30 for a replacement. Send me a PM if you have one you're willing to sell...
Yeah, if I went to the 24" models I'd be planning on spending an appropriate chunk of change, not the same kind of thing I'm considering for the smaller monitors.
I'm looking into a LCD widescreen monitor. PC gaming will be my primary focus. I also like to watch DVDs on my computer - the rest of the stuff I do isn't that demanding - web browsing, word processing etc. My desired price range is in the neighborhood of $250-300.
After spending a day or two...
I'm working with a byte array and I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to write in data that's more than one char (byte) long. It looks something like this:
#define RDT_PKTSIZE 64
struct packet {
char data[RDT_PKTSIZE];
};
packet pkt;
I'd like to use the first two bytes...
MUD = Multi User Dungeon/Domain
Similar to MUSHes, MOOs, etc.
The one I'm playing at the moment is a cyberpunk RP MOO called Cybersphere. cs.vv.com for details.
I love it. It's been running for something like 10 years now, features all kinds of neat systems. Send me a PM if you want to...
What is it about F@H that causes this, and is there a fix? I've experienced similar behavior, but so far I've just closed F@H when I want to game. A better solution would be nice.
Actually, HellMOO has developed something of a reputation as a ghetto for twinks who've been banned from Cybersphere :p
But yeah, it's a similar basic idea, but executed (in my opinion) much better.
I play a role-playing MOO called Cybersphere (http://cs.vv.com). It's a pretty cool game, with a fairly large playerbase and codebase. At any given time there're between 5-30 different players logged on, and the admin do a pretty good job of enforcing good RP and keeping things fun. The game...
Thanks for pointing out bootvis. I think you might be right - bootvis shows the logon + service phase to be the one that's getting dragged out, and a 119.99sec network delay with mrxsmb.sys.
My thoughts:
119.99sec is a very suspicious number. It's way too close to 2 minutes, and I'm willing...
Over the last few weeks I've been having a problem with my laptop. After windows has finished loading and brings up the desktop, the taskbar freezes. I can still do anything that doesn't require the bar/start button (like start programs that are on my desktop), but any clicks on the bar etc...
I'm home on spring break and listening to music through those cheap sony headphones that wrap around behind your head. Bringing my laptop home is easy, but my Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set stays at school.
Still, moving from my Klipsch set to these cheapass 'phones reminds me that in the fall...
I had to drag my girlfriend away from WoW so I could post this. Sorry bro, can't identify with your problem. You just gotta look in the right places. :cool:
Don't give up hope!
You've got lots of options. One approach is to create a new, bigger array every time you run out of space and copy the old data over. Another approach is to use a linked list.
Depending on what you know/are allowed to use, there're lots of different options. Some are faster than others.
I'm curious what people think of MOOs, MUDs, etc. I've been playing the Cybersphere MOO for a few years now, and I really enjoy it (cs.vv.com). Give it a shot if you like the cyberpunk MOO genre.
What do you like to play?
I carry my Compal CL50 in a Targus backpack. Works well since I'm a student - easy to carry and room for textbooks. I generally bring along an AC adapter, 15' ethernet cable, and USB floppy drive, plus whatever materials I need for class/study.
Not my problem, I didn't get banned and start crying like a stuck pig. People like you exist for my amusement. Oh wait...
I mean that in the most loving way possible.
You got exactly what I would have expected. The thread that got you your 24 hour ban absolutely deserved to be locked and deleted. The ban was appropriate - you were out of line. Think of your ban as an effort on the part of Blizzard to improve the forums, and as a warning to you. Let me repeat...
I'm running my old win98 box while my laptop is being RMA'ed, and it generally does what I need it to. Web browsing/downloads are reasonably fast, and I've seen Steam pull down over 500k/s to update itself, which seems on par with what I'd expect from my home's cable connection in the past...
You will have better luck if you're willing to compromise for a 128mb graphics card. I'm writing this from my PowerPro M5:6 and I've had no trouble playing HL2, Far Cry, or most other modern games. I experience some slowdowns in Doom3, but it's still playable at respectable settings, esp. for a...
I would like to point out that yes, I said that I didn't think there was a need to manually control your laptop's clock speed. It's never been an issue for me, so I'd never heard of Speedstep XP. Thus, it's not as if I knew how to solve his problem and was selfishly denying him that information...
1) Your laptop will automatically throttle up when you need extra speed. Much like overclocking a PDA to run at max speed all the time, why bother?
2) Run Folding@Home. Not only will it run your processor at full speed all the time, it'll be putting those cycles to work for a better cause...
How did we get here?
Well, some people looked past your dubious capitalization and non-existant specifications on what kind of solution you were looking for, and made the mistake of offering you an in-depth answer.
Go install ZoneAlarm and egnore the [H]. You clearly don't need our help...
What about keeping the 60 sec limit for normal users, but allowing unlimited (or at least more frequent) searches for paid subscriptions? It'd be a nice bit of "added value" for a subscription, and people who've paid to be part of the [H] community don't seem particularly prone to attempts at...
I'm folding again for the first time in nearly 7 months. Never got around to installing the client when I switched from my old desktop to my shiny new laptop. I'm curious: who else is folding on a laptop/notebook? I'd be interested to see how the Pentium M 1.8 compares clock-for-clock with the...
Kick-ASS work there so far man. I really love to see that kind of craftsmanship, especially since rectangular case windows just aren't the novelty they used to be. Can't wait to see how the final paintjob turns out.
I'd love to see some bondo work on the front. It almost always gives an...
Neverwinter Nights. If I can get it to play on my 1.1ghz Athlon and my GeForce2 GTS, it'll be fine on your system, even if you can't run it at 1600x1200 with all the eye candy on.
Fallout/2/Tactics. Not really that new, but LOADS of fun.
Can't really help you more with the cutting-edge...
