    Asus A7N8X-X + AMD Thunderbird can't undervolt

Thanks. I guess I'll try an older version of the BIOS then. lol, most people would tell you to use the latest version of the BIOS to fix problems, not older ones. I found it, it's the modded uberBIOS 1.005 or 1.007. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

    Asus A7N8X-X + AMD Thunderbird can't undervolt

I have the A7N8X-x mobo with an AMD Thunderbird 1.2 Ghz. The default voltage is 1.75V. When I go into the BIOS to change the voltage, I only have options larger than 1.75V, nothing smaller. Previously, I had the MSI 6330 K7T-Turbo, VIA KT133A and I was able to undervolt the chip to 1.65V, which...

    intel 2200BG and SP2

I am running Windows XP SP2 with Intel 2200BG card using driver 8.0.12.20000 (current one from Intel, but not the newest one from my provider). I haven't experienced this in the week I've had SP2 installed. If worst comes to worst, why don't you try a quick reinstall of WinXP SP2 on the spare...

    Asus Z9

Thank you I've checked that out also. Seems like the battery life is decent but doesn't compare to that of IBM or even X1000 line. Maybe he was running with the screen at full brightness?

    pentium 4 M have hyperthreading?

I don't think so, all Mobile Pentium 4M should not have hyperthreading but most newer Mobile Pentium 4 should have it. (N.B. Mobile Pentium 4 M not= Mobile Pentium 4)

    Asus Z9

Hello, I've done a search in this forum for the words "asus Z9" and Z9 is too short, so I tried "asus z9000" and no result. For about $1500 Cdn = $1100 US, this seems like the cheapest Pentium M laptop that I can find in Canada. I know shared video sucks, blah blah blah, but it provides ok...

    Notebook help.

That's a good deal, get the Toshiba. I've noticed that I can't find the Toshiba M10 on staples.ca site, but they have the Compaq 1050CA at 1497 instead of 1699 at Futureshop.

    Notebook help.

Another choice is the Compaq X1050CA, found here. Almost the same specs as the Toshiba M10, but lower screen (WXGA), Radeon 9200 instead of Geforce, and WinXP Home. That's my laptop choice, but it's 1699.99 so I'm still waiting for a deal. May I ask where are you going to get the Toshiba...

    Question about Centrino's

Centrino is Intel's market scheme which means Pentium-M CPU with the Intel 855 family chipset and WLAN mini-PCI format supporting 801.11b wireless (soon to be 802.11g). P-M is just the processor which can saves more battery than P4M but performs quite well. Eg. a P-M 1.4Ghz = P4 2.4Ghz

RAM question for HP zt3000 laptop

But sometimes mixing stuff can mess up the computer. I have a very old HP computer which runs PC-66 SDRAM but popped in 128 MB PC-100 SDRAM and now the onboard sound doesn't work.

AMD - Intel Argument! Help me win!

For prices, show them the prices and they should be shocked unless they are so blinded that then can't compare numbers. By efficiency, I'm not sure what type of argument that is. But it's a known fact that AMD has a higher IPC than P4 but P4 has SSE2 extensions to help P4 do better in...

Performance Rating of a 2Ghz+ Celeron

Check out Dell's Latitude D505, which has the Celeron M. About $250Cdn cheaper than the 1.4 Pentium M. Performance-wise, t0mshardware.com has a review recently. Battery life is average of 3 hours, just do a quick read to see some benchies and so on. Would this make the Celeron M 1.3 = P4...

    Built-In Wireless and Security?

My answer is no to all of the questions, but I know my neighbours have wireless and this is just for my peace of mind to be safe. Besides WPA slows down the connection. More security is better, that's my motto  True drivers can tell a lot. About the Centrinos, are you referring to...

    Built-In Wireless and Security?

Ohh, I didn't know that new laptops are beginning to support WPA. They don't seem to advertise it at all. How would I know if it supports WPA at purchase? Some tech guys don't know much and they aren't always reliable

    Built-In Wireless and Security?

Hello everybody. I'm looking into buying a laptop around summer and I am very interested in wireless because of it mobility. I was planning to buy a wireless card and use that first, but now there seems to be more laptops with built-in wireless and that's appealing. I've read that built-in...

Performance Rating of a 2Ghz+ Celeron

Very interesting about the 1.7 P4 kicking the Celeron's butt. But that's the desktop model. Now how would I know if the laptop is holding a desktop Celeron or a mobile Celeron by using only WindowsXP and no other software. This is for me to find out when I check it out at BB or Futureshop. Thanks

Performance Rating of a 2Ghz+ Celeron

Hello, quick question about Celerons. I know they suck for gaming and so on, but for a laptop with mobile Celeron it's cheaper than mobile P4. So here's my question, how fast is a 2.6 Ghz compared to a 1.2 Ghz Athlon (my current setup)? I just need to know because when I program and do big...

PC 133 vs 3200 - whats the real diff?

PC-133 is SDRAM which is 168pin, while PC3200 is DDR SDRAM which is 184pin. As mentioned you need the new RAM, plus you don't want to run an A64 on SDRAM since you can only go 133 FSB.

Thank you. Either way these vid cards are low end. The 3DMark2001 is just something that I use as a general reference that gives the ballpark of how well these cards compare. I'm comparing these cards to my Radeon VE (7000), which only scores about 5k... Another reason, I'm asking is...

Hello, I've been trying to Google this but nothing came up for me. I know the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (chipset Intel 852GME) is pretty crappy for gaming, just good for classics and of that sorts. I don't know how good the performance of the eMachine 5309's graphics [ATI® RADEON™...

    What Is Wrong?

I just did a quick search at Futuremark and the 3dmark 2001SE there seems to be many more people with scores in the 16k range. The people that you do see in the 17k and couple in the 18k probably o/c their cards and did some performance tweakings. I would say your scores are just fine. Have...

This temp possible with an air cooled system???

Concerning ’m‚³‚ñ's post. If you want to setup your MBM to sense the correct temperature, goto MBM's site and goto motherboard list to properly configure the sensors. Many people, even [H]ard people can forget this and setup the sensors incorrectly and have wrong readings. The best way to...

    temps

Refer to MBM's website for the probes in your board. Most boards have 3 sensors, one which has no use since it doesn't relate to the CPU or the Case temp. Refer there first and see if your sensors are set correctly.

    62 decibels!!!

I'm with everyone else, try cleaning out the case to rid of dust and look aroudn the case to see if anything "shaking" or vibrating that may be creating the excessive noise. I just had a relative who bought a cheap Dell, about $1100 Cdn. When he first got it, it was noisy so he sent it back in...
