heh... i remember having my k6-III and k6-3+'s in this *huge* full tower. http://img.s10forum.com/album219/aal.jpg here's the only picture i could find of the board. i've got one laying around that's got that board inside the huge case but not handy and uploaded. this was shortly before...

Questions about doing ye olde metal briefcase mod

I layed a metal plate into the bottom, used long threaded standoffs, and bolted them thru the bottom of the case. As for making everything fit, I just moved stuff around before doing any cutting and mounting untill it all fit in. It helps to have a cheapie case you no longer need, as you can...

    Mobile Duron Question

Quite definitely a mobile. btw for the person who wants to slap a desktop chip in, you don't want to do this, i don't think the lappy will handle the heat. + it's an utter PITA to get it apart and back together, hundreds of small peices and screws that have to go back together just so. i...

    too cluttered

only thing that stopped me from doing that is the cheapie holdover case i bought doesn't have a ton of room behind the mainboard tray. here's mine now, i don't know how anyone can stand to have a big rats nest of wires. http://img.s10forum.com/album219/abn.sized.jpg Gone now are the...

Internal Wi-Fi sucks, what can I do?

I had an orinco based card a while back, it got butt-raped by cordless phone traffic (I live in an apartment). The newer one I got that cost half as much (dunno what chipset it is) has a much better connection to the same router.

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

w3rd. I didn't even wanna sink more money in this, was gonna stay with my celeron 667, but I got a dvd-r for christmas an wanted to max it out for some video editing, then the mainboard fried and I had to replace that.

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

 does me just fine till i save up for an ath64. besides, clock for clock i'm doing fairly good against a p4, should do just fine for a while.

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

nada... maybe the chip just can't handle that clock even w/ a voltage bump. 1.6ghz / 115fsb it is then.

    P3 cooling

There's the current beastie. I gave up on putting on my turn-to-lock golden orb from way back on this tualatin after it sheared the small center pins off of both adapters, I had to go get a modern hsf with the wider multi-hole adapter. The old g-orb worked fine on my celeron 667 coppermine but...

    P3 cooling

I've got a tualatin chip that I had to de-arch the mount clip as it sheared the fingers off my tualatin adapter. on a standard pIII, anything from a socket 7, socket A or socket 370 hsf will mount up.

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

I'll probably get a better boost if I can manage to get it into a 133 mhz bus. I can't even get it to post at anything above 1.6 ghz but I think it has to do with my adapter's manual voltage settings, being that the bios can adjust voltage but it's gotta get that far first. I just gotta yank...

    Good S370 P3 Board?

update: will do 1.6 stable again but no 1.8ghz *BANGS HEAD ON DESK* even w/ huge voltage bump. Won't even post at anything over 1.6, but 1.6 is stable. also has fussy pci slots. Also won't run any 3d marks, stock clock or overclocked, but I think that's just software/driver...

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

The reason the new board went in is that the dually rig done blowed up. Won't even post anymore, just makes the dead cpu error code through the PC speaker. I'm holding off till I can do an ath64 right. Btw those benchmarks are against dually setups, didn't notice that till after I took the...

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

Well I put it all together and sheared the fingers right off my tualatin to standard PIII adapter. Good thing I had a spare. I de-arched the retainer clip to compensate for the hight and its all good (proper re-tempering, not just a bend).

    Mac Power switch question

no case, they came off a xerox 4890 industrial laser printer. I figure there's a power and reset switch there, and considering the next case is plexy, imma go for it. If it turns out they work (I'll try them with a dead mainboard by this weekend) I'll put up the phone number of our...

My first attempt at a briefcasemod

w3rd. mine was a tad over $20, just some aluminum venier. I re-enforced it with a perforated metal plate and used some long threaded standoffs and put a nut on the other side. so basically it's a skin on this metal frame i built. bought it at menards (large chain hardware store here in MN...

    PIII Tualatin heat spreaders

Anyone know of any significant benifit to removing the heat spreader on a tualatin chip? I got this celeron 1.4 tualatin that did 1.6 stable (115mhz fsb) with no voltage bump, going to up the voltage a tad and try for 1.8 but before I get everything in place I was humoring getting rid of the...

My first attempt at a briefcasemod

I think we may have used the same case (at least the same manufacturer). What I did with mine is low on this page: http://www.fuckedforums.com/forumwhore/computers/ Some constructive criticism on your case: everything could have fit inside if you decided to ditch the window or at least...

    Building a kickbutt 486 system

wow, thats a trip down memory lane (just found this thread). I got shitwads of old 486 stuff in a box in a closet, including a working motherboard, 3 5x86 133 chips, a baggie full of 72 pin, 1 or 2 vlb video boards (one s3 and one diamond stealth 32 or 64, can't remember), + tons of isa cards...

    Good S370 P3 Board?

I just had to face a similar search due to my acorp dual cpu mainboard going out on me. Pricewatch has a few deep into the $100 range but I found that an unnacceptable investment. There was a few cheap ones on e-bay but they had a long way to go yet and probably wouldn't stay cheap, so being...

    Mac Power switch question

we've got pressure switches like that on our xerox 4890 machines at work, for which we have a few dead systems for parts. I think I'm going to talk our service rep out of a few of these tomorrow. calm down little man, i know its addictive ;)
