I'm looking to build a computer for the television for playing hulu, and 720p/1080i/1080p video files. Nothing else, just an HTPC I guess.
So looking for something relatively cheap, not sure how low I can go spec-wise before videos start lagging/skipping frames.
At least 2 GB of RAM <-...

I'm thinking about getting:
- Pioneer Electronics VSX-915-K A/V Receiver
- ? Sound Card
Is that a good Receiver? Also, for a soundcard how would I connect it to a receiver to get the 5.1? Thanks.
What's some good air filter material stuff? Stuff you can buy in a sheet or something and cut yourself. I want to make my computer almost dust free on the inside. I'm only having 2 fans in the PC. Side fan blowing in, back fan blowing out and the PSu will be blowing out.
I'd like to maintain...
Well, I'm going to build a media PC that will host a number of songs, movies, videos and such. A lot of media.
I'm thinking about putting 2, 250 GB hard drives into my media PC for the living room. Do you think that's enough for: movies, music, pictures and television capturing?
I want it...
Well, I'm building a HTPC and a web-server. I don't need a super-amazing graphics card, but I need one that will be compatible with Linux. Will this card work with Linux?
Thanks!
Would you recommend something better for video playback or something?
Future Power KT-133 Motherbaord
VIA KT-133 Chipset
I was thinking of getting a 1.2 GHz CPU for my dads PC so he can run this game (Silent Hunter III) a little bit faster than on his 850 MHz Duron.
I'm not sure if it will work.
At first I was planning to get an ATi Radeon 9000 for my Linux setup. But I heard ATi and Linux suck, and that nVidia is better.
How well are the drivers? I don't plan to use it for gaming, mostly for Home Theatre PC and as a web-server.
So there won't be any gaming. I was curious if...
Building a Linux Web server off old pc-parts, and buying some parts (CPU).
1.2 GHz AMD Thunderbird
Processor Core Model 4 (Thunderbird)
Bus frequency (MHz) 133
For KT7/KT7-Raid:
Supports AMD Duron 600MHz ~ 850MHz or future Socket A processors based on 200MHz (100MHz Double Data Rate)...
I'm using an old mobo to rebuild a computer for Linux and Web Server purposes.
A-Bit KT7-Raid only supports up to ATA/100 will Ultra ATA 133 or Ultra ATA 100 work?
I'm planning to build a Linux server, and also use it as an HTPC.
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
I'm going to be installing Linux Mandriva 2006 PowerPack on it, and I went ot creatives website to look for Linux drivers. There aren't any. Will Linux automatically detect it, or where...
ATi Radeon 9000 or ATi Radeon 9600. What should I get?
I was planning to build an ATi Linux system. I was going to go with Mandriva 2006 PowerPack, with an ATi Radeon 9000 or 9600 video card.
Going to be using this as a web-server, and as a home theatre PC. I will not use this PC for...
AMD Duron Socket A (100MHz FSB) 800 MHz or 850 MHz will be fine, with a heatsink.
or
AMD Socket A Athlon (100/133MHz FSB) 1.4GHz would be nice, with a heatsink.
Also possibly looking into buying:
20 GB HD for $20-30
DVD-Rom for $10-15
I'm looking for a laptop that's 1 GHz, enough ram to run Windows XP and various programs. 20-40 GB Hard drive size. Video card and video screen (no damage to screen) does not matter.
$100-200
It's going to be used for College. Going to do a lot of my homework on it.
If I remember correctly Intel processors match well with NVidia graphics cards and AMD processors match well with ATi graphics cards.
My friends don't believe me, and think I'm blowing smoke out of my ass. Are there any links or such to prove such? I've found a couple from back in 1999-2000...
Is there a way to see which files are corrupt without having to repair or delete the files. They might be important files, and I don't want unnecessary files being deleted or repaired.
I'm not sure if I should CHKDSK.
It says I have a file corrupted, not sure what file is corrupted.
Well, I want a Home Theatre PC. Basically, I want it really small and it seems the Mac-Mini is small and nice.
But I was curious on where to get a DVI converter to RCA/S-Video/HDTV?

This game looks freaking amazing. The Xbox 360 looks very promising in terms of graphics, and this game is only the tip of the iceburg. It's amazing ;).
This game will look amazing as well when it comes on the PC...
Looking for an AMD Duron or Thunderbird, around 800Mhz or lower or higher is fine. Also, a heatsink would be nice!
I have an Abit KT-7 Raid Motherboard (yeah it's old). I was looking to slap a CPU on it and revive it as a little Home Theater PC.

Well, I'm going to have a mail server. I was curious as to what's a good product to get for Win32 (Windows XP Pro)?
Back-end: ?
Front-end: HiveMail.
I'm getting HiveMail for the webmail, but not sure what to get for the back-end that will be the actual server.
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=56-101-453&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
I'll be getting that, can it fit 2 Hard Drives? Or just 1?
If I wanted to add another hard drive or something, how would I go about doing it?
I was thinking of getting ->
Shuttle SFF AMD Socket 754
AMD 64 2800+
2 Gigabyte of PC-3200 corsair ram (1 gigabyte sticks)
73 GB 10,000 RPM Hard Drive (SATA)
250 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive (SATA or IDE)
This is going to be for a server (web, game & irc). So there's going to be no high-end...
What would be a good connection for web-hosting?
I was thinking about SDSL, but I don't know the prices of SDSL. It's not going to be widely used, maybe 5-15 people a day or so? At different times or something, would 3.0 Mbit / 768 K ADSL be sufficient enough for that?
OS: Windows XP Pro
Apache: 2.0.52
PHP: 5.0.3
DNS: http://www.zoneedit.com
The problem being is with Virtual Host obviously.
If I do ->
NameVirtualHost *:80
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName forum.site.com
DocumentRoot /www/forum
</VirtualHost>
My main website will turn into the...
Listen 80
ServerName www.site.com:80
NameVirtualHost *:80
<VirtualHost *>
ServerName forum.site.com
DocumentRoot /www/forum
</VirtualHost>
for some reason it's not working :(. It's not working for the sub-domain when i put in forum.site.com
I was curious if there's a way with Apache 2.0.52 to make it log for seperate dates?
Like log for 2 - 7 - 05 put in the error and access logs there
then when the next day comes create a new folder 2 - 8 - 05 and put the new error and access logs in there.
or create 2-7-05-access.log...
In Apache 2.0.52 a displayed folder when in directory mode can display 20 characters, I was curious if anyone knows how to increase the character length?
