    Single-monitor portrait mode gaming

You should be aware of the Sharp LL-S201A. It's a 19.5" multitouch monitor with 1920x1080 resolution. It costs about $700, which is pricey, but the touch screen is rather fancy. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7979131&CatId=12...

Two things: 1. You should see an eye doctor. Your difficulties could be a symptom of something more serious, from a neurological condition to blood pressure problems. 2. What do you mean by "good dot pitch"? Do you mean high pixel density or low pixel density?

    Asus 39 inch 3840x2160 60Hz panel.

As kabobi mentioned, this is not correct. The 4K IGZO panels are 31.5"; the 39" panels are all expected to be VA, like the Seiki. I don't know if they will be identical to the Seiki panel or a variant, but it's reportedly also going to be manufactured by Chimei Innolux. The PPI on a 39" 4K...

    Asus 39 inch 3840x2160 60Hz panel.

Has there been any information about the 39" 4k monitor? Last I read, Asus pushed the launch back to Q1 2014, but it wasn't a reliable source. The Seiki has been on the market for half a year; the panel has obviously been available. I'm frustrated that no other manufacturer has brought it to...

Mini Displayport KVM Issues - Are Dell and NEC My Only Options?

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but you should probably give a few more cables a try. I had problems with my DP connection -- it wouldn't wake from sleep, would periodically reset the connection, and would freeze on the monitor splash screen. I had broken my OEM cable, and picked two...

Looking for < $1000 27inch monitor for photo and video editing

This is still a good deal on a professional monitor: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/689882-REG/NEC_PA271W_BK_MultiSync_PA271W_BK_27_Widescreen.html It won't recreate the feel of the ACD though. Some will prefer the NEC, some the Apple.

    Asus 39 inch 3840x2160 60Hz panel.

I just realized that a monitor with this size and resolution will nearly perfectly match the pixel pitch of a 27" 2560x1440 monitor -- it should produce an enormous, if not quite perfect PLP display setup.

need your opinion on laptop resolution 1366x768

I have a thinkpad x220 with an IPS screen at that resolution. The screen quality is decent, but even with decent viewing angles, the resolution is limited and limiting. At the time, there weren't other IPS options on the market. I would not buy a laptop with that resolution today.

Triple setup - 27" center + smaller flanks?

I have a 2560x1440 flanked by two 1600x1200 monitors. The PPI doesn't match up, and it is annoying at times, but it's generally quite workable. I usually use the side monitors for reference, and do most of my work on the 27", so it's not like I'm moving screens between monitors that often (and...

Lawyer needs advice about monitor purchase

I do a lot of text work as well, and in my experience: 1. Look at the environment in which you plan to use the computer. Is there overhead lighting that you can't control very well (no dimming, etc.)? Are there windows that might introduce glare or excessive contrast? 2. Pay attention to...

    NEC PA271W-BK

It's $900 at B&H. I have one, use it for web design and development, also for general research and writing. Very happy with it -- I've had it since early 2011, and never had any complaints. I have it in a PLP setup with two NEC 2090wuxi. It's a functional setup, but the mismatched pixel size...

Secondary Smaller Display for Windows 8

There are no good options yet in this market. I own the Planar, and am pleased with it, but it's too big for realistic use as a secondary display. I'm looking forward to the Lenovo, and will attempt to get one early. I'm wary of displaylink, though. These are the projected-capacitive...

    Understanding Resolutions and Displays

Pixels have the same meaning for monitors, for pictures and for videos. Each pixel is a colored dot -- on a modern lcd screen, usually comprised of three subpixels, one red, one blue, and one green. The three subpixels light in combination to produce a wider spectrum. An image will have...

Dell U3011 - Displayport or DVI?

I have a NEC pa271w and was connecting via displayport. I had constant sleep-mode problems -- with the NEC OEM cable; an overpriced off-brand from microcenter; and a start-tech displayport. I was connecting to a 5770, and a 6950, and experienced the problem with both graphics cards. I...

Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29-inch Ultra Wide Monitor

I'm intrigued with the Displayport daisy chain. You have to have a displayport 1.2 connection from video card to u2913. Can you then run a displayport to DVI/HDMI cable from the u2913 to another display? Will WMC HDCP work over the daisy chain?

    Touchscreen Monitors?

Be prepared to spend. The best option looks like the Planar Helium, a 27" 1920x1080 monitor with decent viewing angles, projected capacitive 10+ point touch, and VESA compatibility. It costs ~$700-800 USD. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1721498 There is a 23 inch Dell with projected...

    Picked up an X230.

A tangent: I got an X220 last spring. I've been quite happy with it, until last week. I dropped it about 4 inches on to a desk -- I was opening the screen with one hand, and the hinge is still stiff enough that the bottom of the laptop came up, and the whole thing slipped out of my hand. I...

How to optimize my current monitor? or should I buy a new one?

No. A 27" panel with the ppi of the 13" macbook panel would have a resolution of 5120x3200. Even the next generation of high resolution panels (4K or "ultra-hd") is going to have significantly fewer pixels than that.

How to optimize my current monitor? or should I buy a new one?

It's not interesting, it's obvious. There are dozens of laptop screens with higher ppi (pixels per inch) than any mainstream desktop monitor, the mac high ppi displays included. There are dozens of tablets and phones with higher ppi as well. The highest ppi desktop monitors you can get are...

screen [door] effect: *is* there a lcd that does not have this?!

HDMI To DVI: Effect Quality? New Standard?
