I wonder, what causes the decomposition, oxidation or light/temperature sensitivity? If kept under nitrogen atmosphere will a CD-R/RW stay useable longer? What if it were stored in the dark? Anyone have so much time that they equated the lifespan of the CD in relation to light intensity...

I dled ASIO4all but I can't for the life of me figure out how to configure it properly for soundstorm. I have the dll installed properly and everything (works with Nvidia ASIO) in foobar.

You've got soundstorm on there, find somewhere that'll get you some z-680's cheap... you'll save money from not buying a soundcard and get some half-decent speakers...

but all of them that slow? I've tried 20+ discs and none of them go faster than 2.5x... usually around 2x sometimes down to 1.5x

When I got my z680's to test them out after burning in for like 3 days, I decided to blast them... my friend from two floors up ran downstairs and was amazed exclaiming "What the f*** was that? Was that you?! Holy crap!" Good thing my don that term was really lax...

You could always try lamp wire, 16-gauge lamp wire from home depot works great...

Klipsch are horrifically expensive here... they'll cost around $300 more for the promedia ultra 5.1's than the logitech z-5500's... that's really hard to justify (~$370 as compared to ~$650) for the sound improvement you get. At that kind of jump, you might as well invest in a cheap home theatre...

There's Vantec Iceberq4's... they perform ok, nothing stellar, but on a 9600, it can run on really low rpms (through speedfan)
