Can't seem to rip audio with NEC DL DVD+/-RW

I just got the NEC 3500 DVD+/-RW, but I seem unable to rip cd's using EAC with it. I get a big long blank track. If I rip an image using alcohol, and then use eac, it works just fine.

Does anybody know what might be causing this?
 
Did you update your ASPI instalation after you installed the drive?
 
I installed EAC after I installed the drive, and used the nero aspi driver. I don't rip audio ever (except on special occasions), so I'm a little clueless about what to do after that.
 
buy any chance you didnt "upgrade" the firmware did you? I made my old Lite-on 812s a 832s Dual layer burner, and after that, i could burn fine, and install fomr it just fine, but everytime i tried to RIP musice, or copy files form the drive it would take years to do, or error out....
