Lots of misinformed people in this thread...
Ok, the reason EU 220v is more dangerous goes like this: Let us say that the human body has natural conductivity whose resistance is 10k ohms. This is a worst case scenario, I measured the resistance between two spots on my tongue, this is the...
So my dad's Dell 700m's high capacity battery started to not hold a strong charge a few weeks ago, so he decided we would replace the dead cells inside rather than get a whole new battery. He bought the maximum capacity cells that he could find with the same voltage rating, and they were a...
Don't trust the wattage labels on most receivers. On my Harman Kardon AVR-320, the thing is only rated at 55wpc in 5.1 (65 in stereo). The total maximum power draw is rated at 275 watts (how much it pulls from the wall). On a Sony STRDG1000, for instance, its is rated at 120 WPC in 7.1 mode...
Have you considered using the analog inputs on the receiver to hook up your sound card? That would solve the OpenAL/EAX issues and will simplify the whole situation.
Meh. Looks like the usual bestbuy type of setup. Better stuff can definitely be had for the money. The subwoofer is garbage: 35hz frequency response is pretty horrid. Also, the FR for the satellites will make for a pretty high crossover point.
My suggestion is to get 4 x-ls bookshelves...
All the cables are already labeled by the russian guys that installed our home automation and audio stuff. They wanted to charge my dad $800 for a 4 port router and $1100 for an 8 port to hook up the network in there. I told my dad they were crazy :D The other work they did is pretty bad ass...
Its pretty big and long at the same time. I think having one WAP up high will serve the upstairs and part of the downstairs pretty well. The one in the basement will serve the basement and the rooms above it, unfortunately the basement is all steel reinforced concrete, so I dont think the...
Ok, so I can run multiple WAPs. Thats a relief. I was reading stuff as I was posting this and it looked like I couldn't. Since the WAPs will be in the basement and attic, I think it should provide adequate coverage around the house. I might be able to move them into different unused network...
So my parents are building a house and they charged me with setting up a network for them. This is a big house, and they have some pretty big concerns. Currently, they have ethernet cable running to 8 rooms plus an additional cable going to the attic above the 3rd story for a WAP (question...
PC speakers are still pc speakers, my $30 insignias and free 15 year old receiver kill my old klipsch 4.1s. All I need is a cheap sub and this system would kick the crap out of any pc speakers. They get loud, they are good for near field, they look bad ass.
+1
Pc speakers are flimsy, plastic, small, weak, and overall sound like a whale turd.
Get some good sized bookshelves (in the speaker world, bigger is almost always better) and a decent amp and you're golden! I have 2 insignia bookshelf speakers, they're cheap but sound surprisingly good...
Problem is that headphones are not always practical. Sometimes when I play music I like to be able to get up and do stuff around my room. Headphones might sound nice but they have their place. I have some sennheisers and a pair of insignia bookshelf speakers and the insignias get about 10x the...
Auditioning computer speakers in a store is a waste of time.
Why not get some nice 2.0 speakers? I have the best buy Insignia NS-B2111 (got em at $35 before they went up to like $60) and they sound great. I could use a nicer amp though, I'm using a freebie 20 year old JVC I found in our...
My roomie has been losing fish at an astounding rate in our living room. The tank is approximately 10ft from my H-100 sub.
Maybe thats why they're dying so often?
IMO, the only remote worth buying is a harmony remote. I have one for my HT and it controls everything perfectly. Set up time was seriously like 4 minutes and it couldn't have been easier. I have the xbox 360 version so I can navigate xbox menus easily. I've been able to retire a total of 6...
External DAC. Problem is that there is a lot of noise from the high frequency traces on the motherboard (like from the CPU, northbridge, southbridge, ect) that the analog circuits in the sound card pick up on. This is what causes this sound. I'm very familiar with the sound too. Sounds like...
Stick the end of a vacuum cleaner on it and turn it on. Don't turn the vacuum on before hand. It would also be beneficial to be able to control the suction by opening up the little air hole and then slowly covering it up until it pops that dome back out.
Get yourself a cheap logitech harmony remote. With all that stuff, it'll be the best thing you will ever buy. Then hook it up however you feel, since it wont matter with the harmony :)
The one time I thought my HK was faltering was when it automatically shut itself down at anything higher than -10 volume. I thought it was broken, but then I found out I blew out one of the woofers on my speakers and the protection circuit detected this and automatically protected it from...
Normally there is a performance/sound quality hit when using wireless headphones. Plus you have to charge the batteries.
Any reason why bluetooth is important to you?
Take the amp plate off and hook the + and - on the speaker to a receiver or some other amp and see if the speaker is blown. I'm guesssing the amp is fubar.
