Large cursor and video driver crash issue was fixed for me with a gigabyte ud4p bios update. Haven't tried the heaven dx11 benchmark since then though.
I was going to say it's the "not enough power" alarm*, but your sound is relatively quiet in comparison.
*I accidentally forgot to plug in the PCI-E power connectors when I first installed my 5850. The card let me and my neighbors know that it needed more power. Most high pitched noise out of a...

I ahve the same issue. I'm sure it will be fixed though :)
My issue is a little different. As long as I don't play a video in youtube or hulu, it works perfectly. When start viewing videos, it may still work perfectly, but sometimes in the middle of the video, the video driver will crash. Windows can sometimes recover from the crash and restart the...
Like windows crashing after watching a youtube video for a few mins. Or any 3d app or browser crashing. Etc.
I should rephrase, the fluctuation may not be the cause but it is occurring at the same time as my crashes.
Happened right now while watching a full screen HD video on youtube. Notice the spikes in clok/mem frequency - that's when it happened, but no crash this time, just the screen blinked as the monitor "recaptured" the video signal.
Is there a guide out there for this stuff/ I don't understand half the options in the BIOS related to OCing, CPU base clocks, various multipliers, turbo mode, memory timings for DDR3 etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Right now I'm not even sure if I'm running at stock speeds or not. CPU-Z is...
Win 7 64bit, Radeon 5850, Cat 9.10
This is happening on hulu.com, where on full screen, the screen goes black after a while, but the audio is still playing. Recovering back to windows is almost impossible as the windows don't draw correctly even after windows automatically drops Aero...
I know that, but the screen wouldn't turn on and the mb has no diagnostic LEDs and I had no internal PC speaker to connect to the mb for beep codes.
Every mb should have diagnostic LEDs, they're very useful IMO.
OK, good discussion, but LOL at myself.
I guess I didn't do rigorous enough testing yesterday but I switched the RAM from the blue slots to the white slots on the P55 UD4p and it's booting fine now. Go figure.
Time to put in the 5850 and see what happens.
Hmm, I don't really want to go by wattage so much as efficiency, ripple control, solid amps on the 12v rail. I prefer Corsair's Seasonic models, but at the same time Corsair has better warranty service than Seasonic OEM.
Edit: but that 850W Corsair does look good based on the review.
I'm thinking of that, what's a good efficient modular not quiet PSU that's future proof. I could just get the HX620, unless there's a better Corsair or other product out there. Cost is not a big issue. I never skimp on the PSU and 2 years ago the HX520 was almost top of the line.
I've checked the connections and they all seem solid. I'll take the mb out of the case and test it that way when I get home.
Only thing that is making me lean towards the PSU is that my previous computer had a very similar issue which is what made me build a new one in the first place. I...
My PSU (Corsair HX520) on a new build fires up the fans and mb lights, but I get nothing on the screen. I've tried two video cards and monitors, but same thing.
The thing is my older build had a very similar issue where the mb would try to boot up but end up with a error code in the test LEDs...
I say go with what you feel is best for you. I was thinking of the 5870 myself, but instead went with the 5850 because the rest I will put into my music setup. MIDI controllers don't come cheap! I can easily see myself playing music more than gaming.
