5870 Quadfire user video!!

Thanks again for the support!! Hope these numbers helped regardless of resolution. :)

No, what you said was in your opinion no one should have been able to buy a 5870 because some people couldn't crossfire their eyefinity setup. That's different than saying that CF eyefinity should have been working before release, because OK maybe it should have but it wasn't and they released the cards anyway. To do otherwise wouldn't have made any sense to them as a company or to 99% of the people who bought one of the new cards.

I never said CF eyefinity wasn't important. I just said that your opinion stating AMD should have waited on this one feature to be ironed out before releasing this generation of cards was "dumb". And again if you had just said "IMO it should have been ready before release" I could have agreed with that. I would not however state that since it wasn't, AMD should have just called the whole product launch off, packed up their shit and went home.
I know exactly what I meant when I said it and it is the same thing.

Bodar,

For the sake of comparison, can you tell me what the fps score of the Heaven benchmark was for your system running it on 1 card on a single monitor? I am trying to get an idea of how much EF is really going to drop performance on Dx11 media...

Sure.. I'll run it and let you know! :) default dx11? or maxed settings with 1?

Hehe Bodar nice to see you here and Guru3D as well Keep on with great work ;)

Highly Appreciated ! ignore the negative comments! knowing how much time you spend for a benchmarks & test requests is enough if you ask me :)

You planning on robbing the guy? lol.

But really, thats a nice setup. The thing I was surprised by was how going from 2 cards to 3 sometimes increased performance over 50% but 3 to 4 didn't scale to good. One of the benches was 65, 129, 214, 238. Thats a 66% increase for tri-fire but only 11% for quad-fire.

PC gaming = Olympics :)
Console gaming = Special Olympics :D

I like that!

On another note, I watched the posted video and man, that system is stunning! I don't care if you're running it on a 13" 640x480 VGA monitor, that's pure nerd porn! :D I've downloaded the Heaven benchmark this evening myself. Amazing graphics....but my numbers were a little lower than yours! ROFLMAO

I have the extreme numbers as well.. Was just trying to get an overall user point of view.. So many people with 1680 x 1050 monitors still that I did'nt want to outcast everyone.. I do have a high res monitor for extreme benches, which I'll post soon.. I really just wanted everyone to see the scaling on a consumer level.. I think for extreme enthusiasts, 3 5870's would be the overall system. What do you guys think?? Actually, even 2 would be great!!

So...people with 1680x1050 monitors are not going to be shelling out $350+ for a new 5870 anytime soon. Just run all your tests at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 if possible.

Also screw the benchmarks and just play the games through, personally I'd like to see what 5870CF can do in Crysis with a massive oc'ed i7.

That is awesome you mentioned that deadskull.. I was just experimenting with a massive overclocked i7 and dual 5870's overclocked to the sh*ter.. At 2048 x 1152 res with 4xaa and everything maxed it runs like a dream.. Feels like watching a movie.. so realistic and smooth.. I'll try to get a video or example going.. i7 was overclocked to 4.72ghz.. core gpu clocks set at 1080 with max voltage..

Nice review, and no offense, but I would recommend a better video camera.

time to start a donation service to get The Bodar a real HD cam.. :p

but good quality or bad quality i still like video reviews a lot more then text and picture only reviews..

Thanks so much again for checking out the video :)

No, thank you for your time / effort spent in making this video!

Im seriously thinking about bailing on nvidia, these cards are amazing, and physx sucks. When asus new x58 with sata 3 and usb 3 comes out, im going to get 5870 and that. and then ill be happy for a week until then next amazing thing comes out

nice video.. looked pretty good..

btw teejay you can run physX with ATI cards as the main rendering card now and a nvidia card as the secondary physX card.. ya just have to find the thread that shows how to do it..

I've tried it with several titles.. Thought about doing some benchmark comparisons.. Soon..

Can you run it with both and post the numbers? I am at 1680x1050, but I want to go EF and upgrade to 3x 1680x1050 or 3x 1080p.....depending on how much of a hit the card takes with EF on Dx11 stuff. I really don't want to replace PSU and other items to add a second 5870.

Thank you!

Will do.. You'll be running at 5040 x 1050 res. You should see even better numbers.. I'll do some statistics using eyefinity in different resolutions so you can get a better idea of the hardware/monitor setups... Thanks so much!! :)

I was a little surprised too how well the tri fire scaled but it seems like once you added that 4th card a lot of games actually took a performance hit.

i still think with his insane overclock hes cpu limited because of the low resolution.. which is why the scaling on 4 cards looks bad.. at 2560x1600 which is what quad fire is for you would probably see better scaling from 1 to 4 cards..

eyefinity benchmarks across the board coming soon guys!! Stay tuned for the info! :)

first person shooters just dont look right to me on three monitors. the games look very fish eye and the guns are way larger than reality which looks silly when you are right in front of the monitor. also with three monitors it looks like we are missing way too much height and things looked zoomed in on many games.

Here's the eyefinity benchmarks.. I used from no aa up to 16.. depended on whether eyefinity worked with it or not.. Cheers!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhAqTecVXbE

You rock man!
Now I have some thinking to do lol. The Heaven benchmark worries me a bit with how long it will be viable to play with all settings on high using EF. With the trend of console ports, it could continue for a while to come. Newer PC dx11 titles could show the opposite though.

Thanks everyone!! Really appreciate it! Hope dx11 titles dont take up as much resources as this bench, although it looks awesome! :)

Great video Bodar, thanks man. I'm running Crossfire 5870's and thinking about adding a third, these benchmarks really helped.

No problem man!! Happy that you liked the video! :) Seems that tri fire is definitely the ultimate.. A few driver tweaks and we are off.. Nvidia wont be doing anything until 2010 now, so there is plenty of time for that :)

Those EF videos benchmarks were nice.

If that is what one heavily overclocked 5870 can do...man I can't WAIT for ATI to get their drivers working with crossfire. I think two reasonably overclocked 5870s should get fairly playable framerates(30+ fps) from almost every game shown at 1920x1080 since even in games like Lost Planet we were seeing 25 fps at above 1080p resolution. We might have to forego 2560x1600x3 monitors but with having three monitors at 1080p is a good trade-off compared to one monitor at 2560x1600.

Nice job Brodar on testing that many games. Great video.

Bodar, thanks for all the great reviews and work put into the benchmarks. Can you please do a benchmark for the game Armed Assault 2? That game seems to be giving many people trouble even in really high end systems. Even the 5850 in crossfire cannot run that game maxed out according to HardOCP review. Can you please try that game on your system?

Thanks again everyone for checking it out!! I'm throwing in some more quadfire benchies as well as a few other games.. and a comparison of leaked benchmarks from the 5970 and 5870 in crossfire x.. Armed assault is definitely on the list. cheers!! -Beaux
