I have a 2 TB mechanical HDD in a 4 disk software RAID array which keeps showing "Disk is OK, one attribute failed in the past (41° C / 106° F)" and then getting ejected from the array. This has been going on a while now and everytime I add it back in to the array only to check a few weeks later...
Retiring Apple TV2 as well as cable subscription and old Readynas NV+ in order to "streamline".
Apple TV2 has given many years of decent 720p output with XBMC but wanting to move to a 4K TV
Sick of paying for crap TV I never watch so cable subscription going and as for Readynas it just proves...
yes RAID 0 would I expect improve read performance.
Some what worried though about how to get the write figure improved. I think I read that Raid 0 doesn't improve write speeds... I could well be wrong again though
:(
Thanks for the replies. Yes I know bit lame a single disk - whole project is still a bit of work in progress....
I enabled the disk cache policy and reads are looking better:
Disk cache policy OFF:
Disk cache policy ON:
As for writes is this degradation in performance explainable...
Hi - I am very "green" when it comes to RAID and SSD's.... recently put together a new machine which runs Intel 5500 with a dual Intel X5660 Xeons. I have also put in a RAID card M1015 and flashed it to LSI 9211 IR mode.
I hooked up a new Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD (MZ-7PD128BW) and built a...
Hello all !
Building a new machine using a Supermicro X8DTL-6F.
Still in the early stages and its going pretty slowly. Trying to nail down the reason as to why I hear six soft bleeps when the machine boots up.
These sounds are not the same as the nasty aggressive memory error sounds...
I was hoping to get some advice on a PSU to run a new machine I am building which comprises
2 x Xeon X5660
Supermicro X8DTL-6F
AMD FirePRO v4900
ASUS PCE-AC68
IBM M1015
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB
4 x SATA Drives
Whats the least I can get away with ?
I have been mulling over a new build for a while whilst waiting for the new Intel processors (xeon E3's and E5's). I do some software development for which I need to run a number of VM's at once and when not working I might at times do some photo editing (RAW processing of 16 MP frames). Not...

Strange question coming up... I am thinking of buying a server board that has no audio to build an ESX server. So thinking of re-using a USB Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go! Pro for when I need audio.
I would like to use an internal header to keep the USB audio stick permanently connected and...
Wondering what a good board to buy to go around a pair of Intel Xeon L5639's. These appear to be acceptably cheap at the moment so ideally would like a decent board to get as much bang for buck. The idea would be for it to go in to a virtual lab that I have been working on with really old...
Sorry seemed to have dropped the PSU off the initial list, its:
Hiper 630W HPU-4M630 SLi Certified PSU.
A USB3 feature would be nice but not a deal breaker.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I haven't really set a limit but I would like to keep costs down as much as possible say 1600 USD
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Soon seems like Ivy Bridge - E is still along wait...
Hi I have built a few PC's in the past but I tend to hang on t other for a while and by the time its time to get a new one together knowledge is rusty.
Now I am currently running the following and wish to upgrade. I work from home and develop code which requires me to run tests on a variety...
