    Does AppBlast require XenApp?

I was confused by the demo today at VMworld. I'm extremely enthused about AppBlast (since last year), but not if it requires us to maintain our Citrix infrastructure.

New VNX Flash Drives - FAST or FAST Cache?

We're in process of setting up/testing/etc our VNX. It's primary purpose will soon be View desktops, but for now will be server VMs plus file duties. We have a 5300 with 20 600GB 15K, 5 2TB NL-SAS and 5 100GB flash. Right now, the flash (minus hotspare) is used for fast cache, and the rest...

    VMware View Backups

I'm planning a View deployment using an EMC VNX and NFS. I'm new to using NFS with VMware so I'm curious about backup solutions. In our VMware server environment (FC), we just use Backup Exec w/VMware license - works great. How do you do backups for your View environments? I'm aware there...

Cisco 64bit IPsec Client now available?

I just noticed while looking for the latest client, there is now a 64bit client! I've installed and tested it, and it does work. Am I the only one that just noticed this?

    DS3400 + EXP3000

In our VMware cluster, we're looking to expand the capacity by getting some more enclosures. I know we've got a few people here that use these so I figured it'd be the best place to ask - Simple question, can hotspares be used across enclosures? For example, assume DS3400 + 2 EXP3000s...

    Nortel 2330 Secure Router woes

My org just purchased 2 of these that we're stuck with, and I'll just leave it at I don't recommend them. My biggest pain is that the Backspace key (nor Delete) do not behave as normal. After entering text (Putty) pressing Backspace does nothing. I figured out I can press Alt+Backspace to...

Need to replace Standby Sup on 6509

We had a supervisor module die (which happeded to the be the stanby at the time), which I now have a (used) replacement for. I'm a little gunshy of the replacement because I'm not sure how the router config part will work. This is an older 6509 chassis that is EOL, no smartnet, which leaves me...

    ntop over time?

Anyone know of a program similar to ntop that will show usage over time? Realtime data is nice, but I need to know more about what is happening over time, on a per IP basis. I'm already using Cacti to monitor interfaces, but it can't track flows per user to hosts on the net. I'm fearing...

    Cisco + Smartnet

I just recently purchased an ASA5505 w/smartnet. I see now that I have access, you can download images for what I assume is basically all cisco hardware. Since I also own an 851W, although without a contract - I'm betting it is at least frowned upon if not outright prohibited for me to...

    Track user rights (database)

What do you guys use for keeping track of user rights? I don't mean as in auditing for it, I mean as in record keeping. Think onboarding/termination process. I'd like to track stuff like - Windows domain user info Group memberships Novell user info Applications rights + it needs to be...

    PIX L2L vpn question

Unfortunately, we don't have any Cisco certified gurus on staff - so I have to try my best to help us limp along. Thanks in advance for any help... I have a vendor that we already have a L2L tunnel setup with that now needs access to another host here. We've got a PIX running 7.0(4). From...

    show mac-address-table

Ah the old show mac-address-table command. And how it fails me on some of my Nortel switches. Of course the idea here is simple, using this command - get the MAC of the device plugged into a port. Then on the router look at the arp table for the MAC, and viola - you have the IP of the...

    Backup Exec and vSphere

Backup Exec and vSphere - how's it work? Before we shell out $5K for a couple of BE VI agents, does anyone know how it works with vSphere? In googling around, I saw an 'opinion' from one guy that thought that VCB would be going away and instead replaced by the Data Recovery API. Can...

    VMware + Netware 5 = no gigabit?

I'm not able to get gigabit speeds with Netware running on ESX. I'm using the PCNTNW.LAN drivers. Speeds seem to be only 100Mb... Any ideas? Everything else on the host (other VMs) have no issues with network speeds.

Nortel 5520 Stack problem during failure

I've got a stack of 2 5520s with MLTs configured (split across each unit). When I test for a failure by unplugging the top unit, I lose all connectivity for about 15-30 seconds, and then it recovers. (My desktop is plugged into the bottom unit) First thought was STP, but I can turn off STP on...

    ESX disk write caching

    IBM DS3400 speed issue

Well I'm looking for help here after being turned away by IBM. To keep it short - write speeds are not what I'd expect them to be. For the purpose of simplicity, I'll only discuss one server in question. I have setup two example luns, one on a 5 300GB 15K SAS disk RAID5 array, another on...

    VCB + BE 12.5 + FC[4Gb] = ?Throughput?

Just curious on VCB backup throughput in the wild. I'm setting up a new environment and I'm not all that impressed with the speed. Average is 1.25GB/m, but fluctuates between .6 - 2.9GB/m. I'd be happy overall with 3+, but I know the system is capable of 5+ from the local file system...
