True, but I noticed an uptick in people trying to rationalize the 4070.the entire 4000 series lineup sucks/bad value outside of the 4090
No. Stomp that fire out. It's bad.

people who already paid for a 4070...True, but I noticed an uptick in people trying to rationalize the 4070.

It's like poetry. It rhymes.people who already paid for a 4070...
Incoming Nvidia price cuts in 5, 4, 3, ...
The talk about it that should be a $400 card, I am not sure if it is possible for a perfect die, that amount of die, 256 bit bus, etc...
Eh, it's not bad at all. $100+ cheaper than what the 3080 was, more vram, slightly faster, runs much cooler with lower wattage, and has frame generation. What's not to like?True, but I noticed an uptick in people trying to rationalize the 4070.

Yes Navi 32 is still chipletIsn't the i/o die on 6nm tho (6nm is priced same as TSMC 7nm)

I wonder if it is not more marketed as a replacement for the 6800xt in some way, similar price at the moment, same name, none of the marketing I saw ever compared the 7800xt to a 6800-6800xt, never giving any impression that it is the succossor that could interest the usual frequent x800 buyer class card.I know AMD is marketing it as a successor to the 6800 XT
AMD has said it’s the replacement to the 6800 NOT the 6800xt, regardless of what the naming would make you think.I wonder if it is not more marketed as a replacement for the 6800xt in some way, similar price, same name, none of the marketing I saw ever compared the 7800xt to a 6800-6800xt, never giving any impression that it is the succossor that could interest the usual frequent x800 buyer class card.
A bit like how much we see versus Turing in Lovelace 60 class GPU and little direct comparison with the 3060-3060ti, seem more like replacing the 3060 by something cheaper to make than a successor that could interest an 3060 owner.
There is a big market of 5700xt-pascal-2060/2070 that his being aimed at.
Do you mean successor or replacement here ? the 7800xt performance-price seem much closer to the 6800xt than 6800 imoAMD has said it’s the replacement to the 6800 NOT the 6800xt, regardless of what the naming would make you think.
However you want to put it, they asked reviewers to compare it against the 6800, not the 6800XT. So pretend the card is called the 7800, not the 7800xt, and work from there.Do you mean successor or replacement here ? the 7800xt performance-price seem much closer to the 6800xt than 6800 imo

Yup, not liking it. Started with the 4080 and still going on with the AMD lineup.Pretty dumb naming scheme then it has to be said. That's like saying the 7900xt isn't the replacement for the 6900xt and shouldn't be compared to it. Is that amd basically admitting that everything this gen was shifted up a tier, hence 7900xt is really 7800xt (before this new one came out)? Which seemed to be the word going around shortly before or after the 79 series launched months ago.
I think is more they are admitting they are done with this gen and won't be releasing anything else. So here we'll just stick XT on the end of everything. That way you might not think there is something better coming in a few months..... Well unless you count them digging up the XTX naming. LOL Ya AMDs naming schemes are a mess. At this point they should just drop all the letters and the numbers... just name them AMD Gen 7 Low... AMD Gen 7 Low-Mid... AMD Gen 7 Mid... AMD Gen 7 Low-High... AMD Gen 7 High. I mean how could they mess that up right? No way we would see Gen 8 Mid-mid-High right? Intel and Nvidia are bad with naming as well... but man AMD really can be annoying.Pretty dumb naming scheme then it has to be said. I was half joking...You mean Entry, Enthusiast, and Ultra Enthusiasts.
As they have been documenting? Because they only have 3 chips and that’s how they document them internally.
I know you were joking, but I find it funnier that things we would toss around as a joke they are doing for real.I was half joking...
But ya however they decide to name things going forward they should pick one and stick with it. having one gen with XT and non XTs... another gen with non XTs but with XT names. A flagship that gets a XTX dug up from a decade before. I mean the refresh parts getting 50s is about the only logical thing they do naming wise.
You and I can figure out what is what... but its this exact sort of BS that turns off the casual GPU buyers that AMD is having the hardest time capturing.
Yeah, but they didn't actually release them that way at least. It's not like NVidia are entirely innocent either, that whole 2 4080's bullshit that people immediately seen through for example. Dunno wtf they were snorting in the boardroom when they came up with that one.
Yeah, but they didn't actually release them that way at least.
Yeah. The 4080 naming was a scam that they then tried to play off, and finally had to relent.Maybe not, but the intention was there. Then their reasoning about '2 cards with the same name being confusing' was also a massive cop out. The 30 series had 10 gig cards, and 12 gig cards with the same name, coupled with LHR versions, yet somehow there was no confusion there. Suddenly everyone got dumber and couldn't differentiate between 2 4080's, with different amounts of ram, clock speeds and stream processor amounts, at least with NVidia's comically bad reasoning.
Yeah. The 4080 naming was a scam that they then tried to play off, and finally had to relent.
Let's not forget the most recent "3060" naming.
I'm not a fan of AMD somewhat jumping on board.

The double 4080 thing seemed suspect from the beginning. All summer the rumor mill was (correctly) churning out yarns that the stack would be 128SM 4090, 76SM 4080, and 60SM 4070Ti. Only a couple weeks before the official announcement did the rumors shift to the 60SM part also being a "4080". We'll probably never know exactly what NV were thinking, but it kinda seems like a last-minute decision that backfired spectacularly.Yeah, but they didn't actually release them that way at least.
Doubtful. People lay down too easily on these things. Both companies have fucked around this gen, maybe the public backlash they've endured will make them play it straighter for the next gen, doubting it.
Does that mean next gen 8800XT is replacement at the 6600XT level?
/s
They gotta have everything set to ultra or the game is not worth playing.Doubtful. People lay down too easily on these things.
Or the 1060 shenanigans.Yeah. The 4080 naming was a scam that they then tried to play off, and finally had to relent.

Yeah, I saw this - guess RX6700 and 6700XT stock are finally drying up. It's a safe bet that both performance and price will be between the 7700xt and 7600, so yeah, pretty much new 6700 cards which is just fine as they are solid performers for the price and we will get a few extra features.10gb & 12gb versions of RX 7600XT spotted in EEC filings.
I am guessing that these are also based on Navi 32
