HL2 delayed until September 24, 2004?!?!

I buy a video card for the video card, not the games it's bundled with. If a card is cheaper because it has no games, then I get no games. I'm getting a Radeon 9800Pro 256MB next month and will probably toss the HL2 voucher if there is any at all.

I might DL the demo for HL2 but that's about it. I'm really looking forward to UT2004 and Doom3 though. And.....uh....I guess we'll get Duke Nukem Forever....err....uh....err......when it's done.;)

Sad part is, the stupidass marketing gimmick of delaying the game by a fucking year (which we all know it was, don't even try denying it...

As one of the guys that participated in the internal Sierra alpha test I can tell you that there wasn't a purposeful delay. The timetable for getting it into shape after we played the alpha was just about what it should have been. So no, there was no intentional year-long delay that I know of.

(BTW, the main problem I remember was the little bugs you could throw that would seek out people. Too many on the level at once would bomb the server. It was funny as hell to watch Morgan run by with forty-five bugs running after him.) :)

Sure I want to play Half Life 2 but I'm not going to lose sleep due to it being delayed.

I'm more interested in BF:Vietnam than any other game this year.

Those "release dates" are arbitrary dates set by computer retail outlets to get people to pre-order. ID never said a peep about a release date. That is why HL2 is #1 on the Vaporware 2003 list and Doom3 isn't even on it.

ID has said several times when they estimate DOOM 3 to be on the shelves. Not arbitrary releases dates by computer retailers.

But from what I can tell both the DOOM 3 and HL 2 goes with the "when it´s done" policy ;)

Typical morons assuming things, this sort of thing really pisses me off.

The email WAS NOT confirming the release date of HL2, ALL online stores have to use estimates and will generally just use an arbitary release date some significant time in the future if they dont know the actual release date.

Happens everywhere with release dates.

Untill VALVE confirm anything you should directly ignore RUMOURS.

And as for Nvidia...after the det 50's release their performance wasnt that much under ATI's, lots of people ran tests, including myself and it was a LOT faster. Thats besides the point, it has nothing to do with Nvidia.

Shame nVidia got so upset about their performance, that they forced a re-work of the GFX Engine to make nVidia GPU's perform better.

Thats interesting, they FORCED a re-work of the GFX engine, did they, and how did they force that? Moron.

Half-Life 2 CANT be delayed again becuase no release date was given by VALVE, they never confirmed the april release or any other time between then and when the code was stolen.

Jesus H christ, some people!

Show me one statement with id saying a release date.

Have they ever heard of patches....why not just release the game. oh well was more interested in doom3 anyways.

We estimate it to be out to holiday season 2003... One statement they have done in direct interviews with them.

Umm, I don't recall that, link?

The most I've heard was Estime time around the end of 2003 or "when it's done", that's still not a release dates, just a time frame. Valve on the other hand says that it would be released that christmas and then it keeps saying alittle more time is needed.

I want a link also. Only thing I've seen even remotley close to a release date is "When it's done."

This delay, if it's real, brings the possibility of some amusing posts in a few months if NV wins the next round of the speed war.

Just imagine...

"I just got an NV40! Now why the #%$&*^! hasn't ATI shipped my HalfLife 2 yet?"

I just think it would be smashingly funny if people were upgrading to NV cards to play a game they got "with" an ATI card.

LOL! :D

One thing for sure, don't believe anyone until the game hits the shelf. There are a rare few games that ever showed up on time.

And for heavens sake, make sure the seal on your ATI XT card is not broken or tampered with or based on a return.

I'm sure a lot of people know the routine, guy buys computer equipment, guy returns computer equipment minus one coupon, storeowner reseals box and tries to sell off as new.

It is that sort of reasoning so much crap comes out now a days. Like Falcon 4.0 or Star Wars Galaxies.

If a game is released broken because they plan on releasing patches for it a whole lot of people will get pissed off and not bother with it.

I don't care how good HL2 is supposed to be.. if Valve releases a broken product just to get people to buy it they will have a huge backlash.. people dont want to pay to beta test stuff for compaines.

Ah well, doesn't really matter to me if it gets delayed more and more. I did buy a 9600XT, but I wanted it for games NOW, not for games coming out in a year. Yes, I lose performance when gaming compared to running a 9700/9800, but for the price, I could take the performance hit. (I'm not exactly running a cutting edge comp anyways, see sig).

And hey, I can focus on schoolwork. :D

Also, Doom 3 and HL2 were the top 2 vaporware of 2003 (Duke Nukem Forever would've been #1 again, but since it was #1 for the previous 2 years, it was given lifetime achievement in the field of vaporness).:p

What?
Oddly, ID Software's Doom III didn't earn enough votes to propel it onto this year's list of shame, despite being one of the most anticipated games in recent memory. It still hasn't shipped. ID lost votes because it hasn't made any unrealistic promises about the title's launch date. In what may prove an important lesson for the rest of the industry, ID has remained vague about its release schedule, a strategy that hasn't raised unrealistic expectations about when its titles will emerge. The company started dropping "early 2004" hints only late last year when it began taking pre-orders. We'll see if it makes next year's Vaporware list.
And:
Fans looked forward to a September release date, which later slipped to the holidays. Then something weird happened. In early October, Valve claimed it had been the victim of a virtual break-in and that a cracker had stolen the game's source code. The code appeared on the Net, and Valve responded by pushing back the release date until April 2004 for an extensive rewrite, according to the company.
Oh this is my favorite:
But after inspecting the code, some fans claimed HL2 didn't need a rewrite so much as it needed to be simply finished. Valve, fans claimed, was using the break-in as a ruse to gain more time. (Valve didn't return calls requesting comment.)

Oops, guess it wasn't Doom 3, but Fallout 3 at #2. Sorry for the mixup. Only found the list amusing because of DNF. :D

It was from an interview in august september last year or in that time frame. Where he confirmed that Doom 3 was scheduled for a Christmas release. There was no exact date.

couldn't agree more, also, this is why early hyping is so lame. all it does is raise the standards to ridiculously high levels and more often than not it doesn't follow through *matrix anybody?*. so just quit paying attention the hype.

Will HL2 have mods like HL1 that is out right now? ie. CS, DOD,etc..

If it doesn't, who really gives a shit. :D Does anyone even play HL the game itself? :D

I still play HL sometimes when im really bored. I also play the HL2 "beta" . It's awseome with my system but i want the full game and I also want to play it multiplayer!!

Yes, it will have many mods. There are quite a few with models and everything already made. Check out http://www.halflife2.net/forums
