Definitely the market leader but priced to match. It may be hard for me to justify a 5800x when 3700x can be had for ~$250 if not lower in the future.
5ghz is a meme with IPC like that.A little bit underwhelmed with no 5 GHz and price hikes across the stack...plus November, ugh. But I'll most likely still get one.

5ghz is such a meaningless factor. Hell bulldozer managed to reach 5ghz but we saw how shitty that cpu still was.5ghz is a meme with IPC like that.
That just about matches the 3080, 2080ti sits around 48FPS, and the 3080 is around 65FPS
Intel has given people an unhealthy fixation on 5ghz.5ghz is such a meaningless factor. Hell bulldozer managed to reach 5ghz but we saw how shitty that cpu still was.

Why care about 5GHz if performance is better due to a huge IPC uplift?A little bit underwhelmed with no 5 GHz and price hikes across the stack...plus November, ugh. But I'll most likely still get one.
If true, Zen 2 just lost a lot of resale value ;-)
Huh, you guys and your weird car analogiesYes I as well absolutely agree. 5ghz is like saying well my car is a 4 cyl and go 150 mph. Yeah but my truck is a v8 and can go 140 but haul your car doing it.
It's faster, yes, but at nearly twice the price. Where would Zen 2 prices go down to?
Too bad no chipset was launched, I was looking at new setup jumping from my 8700K, it looks like I may be waiting a bit longer for that though.
Why would a 3600x sink to lower than half the price of a 5600x?3950x - $400
3900x - $300
3700x-3800x - $200
3600(x) - $125
True, I guess we will see. It's not like I'm not going to get one because it's not 5 GHz, but there are still many games that seem to just like pure clock speed. Why care about 5GHz if performance is better due to a huge IPC uplift?
In fairness, its 75% the number of cores of the 5800x at 67% of the price. With the IPC uplift, I think that is a good option for people who strictly do gaming. Seems like the idea is to take marketshare from the 10600K.Ouch on that 6 core price
Why would a 3600x sink to lower than half the price of a 5600x?
Right, but I still don't see a 3600x going for $125. It has to be close enough to get people to be willing to spend the extra to go up to that 5600x. $175 more is an entirely different price league. They are $159 now on sale for the non-x. There's not a big difference between the two except the TDP.
I'm thinking 5900x.... that way in a couple years when the platform is dead and I get the upgrade itch, I can still scoop a used 5950x for a 33*% all core performance boost (33%ish, probably between 20 and 30%, since I didn't see the base clock revealed). Not sure I'll be able to resist the 5950x.
how do we know the 5800x is using 8 cores from a single chiplet? I would guess its 4+4, since the cpu design accommodates up to 16 cores like current gen. Unless I missed it during the event.I want to see if 5800X performance will be better than the 5900X in gaming since it'll have all 8 cores on a single chiplet. But if the difference is negligible at same clock speeds then I'll pick up a 5900X.
They should release reviews that day (5 Nov)a little disappointed with 5800x price ... does anyone know when reviews will come? few days before Nov 5?
They mentioned earlier on in the presentation that gaming performance benefits from the low latency of having all 8 cores on a single chiplet. So I'd assume they'd make the 5800X have all 8 cores on one in that case.how do we know the 5800x is using 8 cores from a single chiplet? yeah, I think so. 19% IPC uplift and 50% more cores. Should be a pretty noticeable upgrade.Even with your current 3800x you're still thinking about going to the 5900x upgrade route? Assuming you're going to be keeping the same board.
