Hard to benchmark a paper launch. What I've seen so far has left me unimpressed, considering how long ATI has held off on releasing product. Nvidia's refresh is right around the corner.
I pulled out two BFG 7800GTX 256MB and replaced them with an XFX 8800GTX.
The performance advantage in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Oblivion is obvious. It is called dialing everything up to the highest notch while running at 1920x1200 without any issues, which wasn't the case with 7800GTX SLI.
The...
It all depends on the quality of the comb filter(s) in your TV. If you have a great comb filter, you won't see much difference between composite and s-video.
A question that pops into my head while thinking about this is: Is it even possible to create a full-featured SLI driver that conforms to the driver model in Vista?
So taking and holding control points is not an objective?
So assaulting and/or defending consoles and reactors in 2142 isn't an objective?
BF2 is entirely objective based, so I'm not really sure where you are coming from.
Only thing I'd ever remove is a particularly heavy heatsink. Anything else and you're probably adding more likelihood of damage than you're removing.
Sounds more like they're afraid of theft than of damage. A couple top of the line videocards in SLI or Crossfire are often more money than...
...and you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Have you ever swapped a battery on a G7? Ever? I seriously doubt it. The process is trivial. Unless you're uber and never ever die or sit at a loading screen, you'll have ample time to switch the battery packs, it is a one-button push...
Me either, considering there is no reason to be in such a lather to get one right now.
Is Wii Sports going to be any less fun a month from now? No.
Is Zelda going to be any less fun a month from now? No.
Are there any online gaming opportunities that might fade quickly that you'll miss if...
The plextors in my PC aren't even remotely as loud as the 360's drive.
There has already been a link posted in this thread that shows proof of multiple drive models in the 360, and they went on to say that one brand drive is much louder than the other.
...or we could just buy ps3s, hehehe...
Loud. Mine sounds like it is going to self destruct when I'm playing Viva Pinata.
I've heard anectdotal data that says it is quieter if you lay it flat than if you stand it up, sorta like wome.... err, nevermind. Anyways, I'll have to try that out whenever I find time between killing people...
Just curious, but why would you expect a PS3 to be magically enjoyable when you knew the release schedule ahead of time?
it is like you guys were born yesterday or something and have never experienced a new console release. Launch libraries are always, ALWAYS small. It ALWAYS takes time for...
You know what is really funny? Have you been around long enough to remember the mouse technology that preceeded the ball mouse? IT WAS OPTICAL, lol.
Talk about the mouse wheel... it keeps on turning.
I use a g7, it is flawless in terms of functionality. The battery life appears to be...
I wore down all of the bumps on a Ratpadz GS in less than a year. Once they wear down a bit, you go from slick to stick.
I'm using a G7 with Func F.130.R nowadays and I don't think that I'll ever feel the need to upgrade either of them. I will have to replace the battery packs on the g7 at...
It didn't support that resolution last time I played. I suppose they could've patched in support for higher resolutions since then.
The game itself is pretty good, single player, though the save system has a bad case of consolitis.
DX10 requires a much different driver structure, I believe, which will probably neccesitate splitting the unified driver architecture into pre-DX10 and post-DX10.
I expect Nvidia to keep tweaking the pre-dx10 drivers, as their are many, many, many pre-dx10 parts out there and plenty of them...
Don't buy a console on potential. Don't buy a console on games that might ship somewhere in the distant future.
If the console meets that potential, then you should buy it when it does, as it'll probably be cheaper and more reliable/less buggy.
Keep the money in your pocket, where it does...
apples and oranges.
If I want to play the latest game at 1920x1200 with all the eyecandy... I can't do that on the laptop.
If I want to throw a computer in my backpack that I can use on the train or at the airport, or at a meeting at work, I can't do that with the desktop.
As far as...
I like sony consoles, but if I were buying right now I'd buy a 360. It has a library, the ps3 does not. If you can't find more titles currently shipping for the 360 that you'd like to play than are currently shipping for the ps3... you shouldn't buy either, just stick with your pc.
The only...
Coax is the best for shortrun digital. He didn't have to come to the conclusion himself, it is pretty much the "standard" in the industry. Optical adds another conversion at each end, which you don't need on short runs.
Optical is advertised as the cool, high tech method, when in most cases...
It all depends on who makes it. You almost need a fudge factor list with percentage numbers for each vendor. Even then they may be OEM'ing different products behind the scenes so you can't use one number for their entire product line.
I've got 6 raptors, 2 7800gtx, fx-55 and various other...
This is how it works(or doesn't work, depending on your point of view)
720p game.
TV/display that cannot accept(take 720p and scale to 1080i) 720p or natively display 720p, the PS3 will NOT scale that 720p output to 1080i for you, it will scale it to 480p.
Only an issue on games that do...
Gears looks better overall, but is only 8 player, is 3rd person, suffers occasional drops in framerate, and is a 2nd wave title.
Resistance doesn't look as good, is 40 player, is 1st person, is locked at 30fps, and is a release title.
People will compare these two titles, which I don't...
Finished it, kind of shallow for this type of game.
Sword, shield, bow, light/heal, the rest is just window dressing.
By the end of it, I was pretty tired of spending time to get to 'secret areas', where I then need lockpicking ability only to find a loaf of bread and maybe a mana potion...
Mine has worked flawlessly from day one. (very dark green and silver)
That said, I believe my batteries are starting to wear out. Just sent an e-mail to logitech asking them what to do.
Demo? It is the same engine with different assets. The only new stuff is models, textures, maps, and a gamemode. The stuff under the hood, specifically networking? Same stuff.
It shouldn't have any more or less network/master server issues than an up to date install of bf2... yet it does.
I get disconnected nearly every round from the master server, very, very, very, very annoying.
How they can make a mod of BF2 with the existing up-to-date engine code and end up with a game buggier than the original BF2, I will never understand.
I am a big fan of BF2, even with its issues...
I voted killer apps, but it isn't really possible since a killer app(for me) must have serious multiplayer via the 'Net... and you're not going to be doing that with gameplay physics any time soon.
