Actually, no one ever said they were the best. When you start getting into the $400 and up range of headphones, the sound pretty much depends on your source and amp. It all boils down to personal preference. Hey, if you like the sound of your $300 iPod -> $400 SR-71 -> $400 Shure E5C's, then...
Well, don't beat up your headphones and maybe they will last more than 2 months. The reason I've kept my HD-580's in pristine condition for almost a year is simple, I take care of my things.
Ok, I understand what you are saying, but it's a moot point really. There are literally hundreds of positive reviews over at Head-Fi about the A500's, and probably nothing about the Koss's. I'm sure someone bought them, but then realized they were junk, and they could do much better for their...
So when was titanium established as the premier material to make headphones out of? Boy, someone should have told Sennheiser that when they made the HE60 huh! I guess that also makes my plastic-shelled E5C's inferior to the Koss's as well?
That's the idea behind the big case, so I have room for the future STEPS upgrade!
Anyways, I'd rather have a Larocca diamond buffer before I get a steps...
If you are going to spend $100 on Koss headphones, you might as well drop another $12 on some Audio Technica A500's that will sound a whole helluva lot better.
That's no fair! You work at home and have much more to spend on your setup than us poor college kids:)
I'll post an updated pic of mine in a bit, I just got another monitor from home:)
edit: Here they are...
That's exactly what I was going to say, you know her nice 14 year old 1337 grandkid printed that screenie and wrote up a few paragraphs for her. Now we just have to find out what it says!
I can't wait until that kid fires up his favorite UT server only to find out...

Toshiba SD-3950/AV-710 -> PPA via MisterX -> HD580's w/ Headphile cables
Speakers are crappy Inspire 5200's. I had the Ultra's but sold them to fuel my headphone hobby.

It's also not that hard to integrate longer battery life when you use a better quality battery. Plus, you'd think that with Apple's genious engineering department, they would design a unit that actually shuts off. Yeah, the iPod really never shuts off, it just goes into...
FM Tuners suck? What sucks about them...some people like to listen to the radio.
iTunes rocks you? Once again, the iRiver doesn't need software. It doesn't get easier than that. Plug it in and transfer your music, that's it, no middle man.
Battery life? Agreed, there is nothing wrong...
Or you can get the iRiver which comes with a leather case, remote, FM tuner, NO software (plug and play), has better file support, and has a larger battery life.
I've got good eyes:) I could tell by the plugs going into the earcups, I used to have those cables over the summer. Pretty good eh? I could tell those were the HD600's because of the headband pad too, the HD650's only has 2 sections. Otherwise, the color looks similar in your pics, and I...
^What he said.
They have pretty nice isolation, and fold up nicely so you might even be able to take them to classes, around campus, etc...
And later down the road if you want to get a small amp like a Cmoy or Mint, they will benefit from the added juice.
Nice setup Haribo, I'm a fan of the HD600 w/ Oehlbach's -> Xcan, very nice! Was I right with the cables? They look like the Oehlbach's, but I'm not sure... Also, I see your Karma's dock sneaking in that picture:)
I just got some goodness in the other day, I think the pics speak for...
I owned both for that exact reason, to see if there was a difference. There isn't any that I could tell. Unless the inline volume control makes the MX500's harder to drive, thus possibly changing the way they sound...but I highly doubt that.
Where are the headphones plugged in? The source (your sound card) just doesn't have the power to properly drive them to acceptable levels, and I'm guessing the headphones are higher impedance. Send a PM to MisterX to find out more about headphone amps and the benefits they provide:)
Do you care about size? If not, the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 (the PCDP sized one) wipes the floor with all other DAP's, including the Karma. It hate this debate though, since most people just end up using crappy earbuds or headphones and the standard 192mbps MP3 file.
Remember, your setup...
True, comfort is a personal matter...but the Senns are WAY more comfortable. Plus, you said you'll be using them for gaming? Grado's are horrible for this, so stick with the Senns, you'll be much happier considering the requirements you listed.
Yeah, I got it at Wal-Mart and painted the hook to match my HD580's, since it was originally the color of a banana:(
I like some of these dual-monitor setups, I'm hoping I have enough room on my top shelf for this 19 incher!
