S-Spec is SLBEJ and I believe that is D0 stepping. It was manufactured on 9.23.2009 so it must be. Thay don't make C0s anymore, right? I'll hunt around for 3918A results. Thanks!
My batch # is 3918A495. Don't know anything about this batch, but I'm hoping to just get to 3.8GHz stable and I'll be happy. I'll post my OC results when I have them.
Well, I pulled the trigger on these:
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 & G. Skill 3x2GB 1600 (1.5v) combo deal
Sapphire 5870 (score!)
True Spirit with bolt-thru retention bracket
... and the rest... less exciting for most anyone other than me.
I did not go through the whole sticky thread questions...
Made my way to Denver for work and picked up a i7 920 at Microcenter for $199. After much debate, I decided to pull the trigger. This should jumpstart my build, that I've been considering for about a year. Now I need a mobo. I game, want crossfire/sli as an option, and want to overclock...
What a crap set of articles. This author is mediocre at best. None of the given "reasons" are valid to anyone serious about adopting Windows 7. These articles read like a thinly veiled Apple advertisement. In sum, this is not news worthy of [H] Front Page space.
Nice, but wasn't there a thread not to long ago about a EA650 burning up a guy's new build? I'm kinda leaning towards a 750TX if I can't find any good deals. Although, I've heard some good things about the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W $70 after $30MIR.
Of course, but honestly, I take Newegg reviews with a grain of salt. Most of the reviews on there are worthless. Much rather consider someone's advice in this forum if they happen to know something about it.
Well aware of the rules, son. Just have not noticed a nanny in this forum for some time and find it utterly useless to the discussion. If you were interested in contributing, then you actually would have instead of flaming me and wagging your finger at the new kid. Masquerading as trying to...
On a more productive note, that Asus is a very nice monitor for the price. I have one at work and am considering one for home. Don't forget the additional $20 off promo code.
Thoughts on this gaming system? Any substitutions to make it better for the same price range?
$270 -- AMD 940BE/Gigabyte GA-MA970X-UD4P
$225 plus $25 MIR -- HIS Radeon HD4890
$59 -- G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) 1066 DDR2
$75 -- WD6401AALS 640GB Hard Drive
$40 -- Xigmatek Dark Knight...
No worries. That is a good deal on the monitor you posted, but I do want 1920x1200. I was thinking that the Asus 25.5 larger screen size would do me well for gaming sitting close and watching movies and such from further away, say 10 feet or so.
If I decide to run crossfire 4770s or better...
I'm not sold on AMD but am curious if it's a reasonable alternative. That is why I posted the janky AMD build. Thanks for the repeat nibble. Is it wrong to think that LGA1366 and AM3 are the wave of the future? I'm thinking why not spend the cash on either of those builds today, then in 8-12...
Thanks for the input. I've speced out an i7 system and it looks close to what Danny posted. I went with Corsair XMS3 6GBs $114, Asus VW226H $330, XFX4890 $250, and a CM690 $75, all the rest the same. Add in a decent mouse and keyboard and I'm summing to a bit over $1600. I think it's a no...
Greetings – Some background: I posted a call for build suggestions awhile back when the i7 was fairly new. At that time, I was giddy over the new technology, looking at things from the perspective of purchasing the best rig money could buy to accomplish every computing need I could...
Indeed. Would you change anything else considering the theme that I'd be putting my money into components I'd keep in a later upgrade, i.e., monitor, case, PSU, headphones?
You are right, that is a lot of cash. I suppose what I'm thinking is that with the i7, I'll be able to upgrade bits and pieces of it down the road because it is buily on the modern socket and with the newer RAM. Whereas the C2 is at the end of its life. Certainly, the performance difference...
OK, so if I meld the builds into the below, would I be better off? Or maybe I should save the $300 or so and roll with the original C2 system...
CPU: i7 920 @ $299.99 w/FS
MOBO: Asus P6T Deluxe @ $299.99
Video - Visiontek Radeon HD 4870X2 for $530 w/free shipping
RAM: OCZ (3x2GB) DDR3...
Definitely good food for thought. I sure do appreciate everyone's quality input. I suppose it comes down to wanting to get the best for my money, where "best" is defined as high quality performance through time. Bragging rights or e-penis boasts mean nothing to me. You only have to look as...
I know what you mean and agree when you say that I should build a gaming rig around the video card. That said, I can't help thinking that if I go with the C2, in one year's time I'll want to upgrade meaning new CPU, Mobo, RAM, and perhaps the video card. Whereas if I go with i7, in a year's...
So, how would a C2 build like what HardwareGuru put together (thank you) stack up to an i7 build like this:
CPU: i7 920 @ $299.99 w/FS
MOBO: Asus P6T Deluxe @ $299.99
VIDEO: Asus 4870 1GB @ $289.99 w/o $20 MIR
RAM: (3x2GB) Wintec DDR3 1333 @ $215.99 w/ FS
HDD: WD 6400AAKS 640GB @...
