    RX7600

Just purchased a Gigabyte RX7600 OC 8G for a PC that was only using the Ryzen 5600G as a GPU. Why this card? It was inexpensive, the RDNA 3 architecture, low power consumption, and good enough performance for most gaming. I use Linux most of the time so AMD was preferable to Nvidia. I...

Anybody plan on grabbing one of the new RX7xxx Navi cards on launch?

I still have a 1080TI card and am thinking that the new RDNA3 release will finally be the time to update. I'm running Linux so don't want to roll with Nvidia this time around. Hard to know what the real performance and prices will be before launch but I suspect that they should all exceed my...

    Linux driver for Intel GPU

With the Intel Arc Alchemist GPU's to be release in 2022, what's the driver situation for Intel on Linux? My understanding is that the Intel Iris XE is fully supported in the latest kernels and that Intel is similar to AMD in being open with their drivers and not like Nvidia.

    GPU - diminishing returns reached

What's happening in the GPU market? My last purchase was a 1080TI FE back in 3/2017 for $699 back then and I'm not seeing any compelling reason to upgrade. It looks like the AMD alternative is the RX5700 XT and Nvidia's is the RTX 2080TI. The AMD might match the 1080TI but still might be a...

    Home network -- DNS/Directory services

I've only got 3-4 PC's on my network. Is there any reason on such a small network to do any central administration of services? I'm thinking of just copying a common host file, group file, and user file. DHCP services are done by my router with reservations.

    UEFI firmware on old hardware

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this or not. I was attempting to install Linux and FreeBSD on some old hardware that I now wanted to use as a backup server. This was on an MSI P67A-GD65 motherboard. This does support UEFI but just barely. It does not support SecureBoot or have any...

    Intel I5-2500K -> AMD Ryzen 3900x

Finally get to retire my I5-2500K. My I7-2600K got replaced by the Ryzen 1700. Now the 1700 replaces the 2500K and I have a 3900X on the way for my main rig. I don't replace systems frequently so I figured the best course of action would be to go for the fastest chip this time. The list...

    SMART Warning - advice?

I've got a Reallocated Sectors Count of a raw value of 1 on an old Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 3TB HDD as reported by CrystalDiskInfo 8.0.0 with a health status of Caution. I didn't realize how old this was until looking at the Power On Hours of 61823. So that's 2575 days or 7.05 yrs of power on...

    Backup software

What are people using for local (not cloud) backup for Windows 10? I've got Terabyte's IFW suite which used to be pretty good but how does it compare with other software in 2019? I've seen EaseUS,Paragon, and Macrium recommended for home use. Should I be looking for something different?

    Edge browser - unsigned certificate

Anybody know how to fix this? Any site that I go to (internal sites) without a signed certificate produces a blank window with the tab showing the following error: ms-appx-web://microsoft.microsoftedge/assets/errorpages/invalidcert.htm?SSLError=50331648 The expected behavior is to show the...

    32 inch 2560x1440 monitors

Why aren't there any G-sync 32 inch 2560x1440 monitors? There are a couple freesync in this size but I've found nothing in G-sync. The 32 inch 2560x1440 monitor seems to be a good replacement for a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor for general usage. To me, the 27 inch size just seems to small.

    Gaming vs productivity

Anybody else have separate systems for gaming and productivity primarily because of the monitors? I've got a PLP setup with a center Dell U3014 (2560x1600) and two HP ZR24W (1920x1200) side monitors. To me, this is ideal for general usage but not for gaming. I've got a separate system with an...

W10: Start menu size bug fixed?

Has Microsoft finally fixed the Start Menu size bug? I've been using Classic shell since the W10 preview because of this bug. There are other reasons but this pretty much made it mandatory for me. I just tried the Windows Start Menu again and for the first time, all of my apps are showing...

    60hz/120/144hz multi-monitor issue

This might just be an issue with the blurbuster ufo test www.testufo.com but I'm seeing stutter on this test where I shouldn't be. I've got a Rog Swift monitor running at 144hz and an HP ZR24W 60hz monitor on each side of it. If I leave the two ZR24W monitors unplugged from the graphics card...

Monitor sizing - a little surprised

I've been using 24 inch 1920x1200 monitors and a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor. I just got a 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor (Asus Rog Swift) and kind of expected it to be sized in between these two monitor sizes. The 2560x1440 looks to be the same vertical size as my 24 inch monitors -- the only...

    3 1920x1200 or get a 2560x1440 display

I've had 3 HP ZR24W's (1920x1200) setup in both Eyefinity and NVidia Surround depending on my current video card for the past 3 years. I just got 2 of the HP ZR24W's replaced just as the warranty was about to expire so have 2 new HP ZR24W monitors. The 3rd HP ZR24W monitor didn't really have...

    Eyefinity vs NVSurround

I've got two 6950's (clocked to 6970 speeds) running 3 24" monitors (1920x1200) at 6020x1200 resolution after bezel compensation. The MSI Lightning 7970 and the GTX 680 are both looking like good upgrades. Will the single card Nvidia Surround suffer from the same screen tearing issues as...

    12.2-12.3 driver issue on 6950's

The latest official driver 8.95-120214a-134393C-ATI, shows up as 12.3 - 3/7/2012 seem to be causing me issues on a pair of crossfired 6950's. The problem is not when gaming but when the GPU's are left idle. It seems to be random but every so often when I try and clear the screensaver (blank...
