This reminded me of an SE that was still in storage. It was my main monitor from 2007-2015, then it was replaced w/ a 43" LG. And that was replaced by a 4K 43" LG last year.
I bought my mom the original, non-SE version, which she used from 2007-2011. Sold it within 3.5yrs (to a fellow [H]...
You can still get updates for Win7, you just need a patch.
Wow, thats an old monitor. If it runs at 75hz, i guess its fine. if not, you'll just be upgrading your monitor sooner rather than later. ;)
you should enable turbo. also, check your c-states - they should be enabled.
Thanks for the...
For the uses you've stated so far, an i5 would be fine. If you tend to keep your computers a while before upgrading, then I'd suggest going with the i7.
All the edgy plastic around the Phantom turns me off - not as clean looking as the 600T, IMO. The FT02 is beautiful, though; wish I kept mine.
lol... I was like, who's this "Dangman" guy... sounds familiar... :p yup, that's how long it's been. Wish I had the time for this place like I used...
I'd re-seat the RAM (try only a single stick) and CPU.
if those don't work, pull everything out of the case...

If the barebone bench test didn't help, it's probably a failed mobo/cpu. do you have another stick of ram you could try?
strange how drivers install, though. i'd try:
1) uninstall any drivers
2) disable in device mgr
3) reboot and disable in BIOS
4) reboot into windows and make sure it doesn't detect it in device manager
5) plug in cable, reboot (watch port and see if lights turn on), and enable in BIOS (if lights...
hm... it could just be a setting. might just need more voltage for the ram. i'd play around with the timings and voltage; then run some memtest passes. if you get it working without any issues, no need to replace anything. if you still have issues, get started on that rma process... it takes...
I stopped using fan controllers once the industry moved away from 80mm fans. For a fan controller to give you control via software, it would require a USB (or some other) input to the system -- seems a bit expensive for a fan/light controller.
Most mobos allow you to control the fans...
For any major OEM Windows XP SP3, Vista, and Win7: if the mobo is OEM w/ the proper SLIC table (or SLP string for XP) installed, then you won't need a key/call to activate. However, you don't even need an OEM ISO to re-install on your OEM machine. You can find the certificates and OEM keys...
oh yah... the stickies... i had to use the links the other day cuz i couldn't remember some of the sites i used to buy from (cuz yah, it's been THAT long), lol.
thanks for updating the links in the TSG, danny. ;)
How important is up/downtime? One reason to go Dell is for their service contract (for businesses). If you don't need Dell's NA business support, then by all means, build it yourself. However, if you do need to have next day or same day service, then get the service contract with the Dell...
