New Samsung 4k for everyone.

Yup. Just to demonstrate why 21:9 monitors are a total waste of money. If I get the itch for 21:9 and higher frames rates, I can do it any time. Doesn't even have to be 1440P, it can be 3840x1600 if I want it a little taller.

Agreed. The reason why I waited for 40" 4K. 3840x1600.
As you can see the 21:9 threads are dead now. I never bought into the hype because it was overpriced tech, but made available at the right time because it was a temporary compromise for not having affordable 4K.

Can someone clarify what is the "cheapest" video card today I can get to power one of these Samsung units properly? Would a GTX 960 work?

No. They can simulate 120 Hz motion via the Auto Motion Plus feature, but it's not a true 120 Hz input like a niche gaming monitor would have.

Are these, or any TV's available in the UK... capable of 120hz 1080p?

That is correct.

They show up as 60hz in your OS.

Even the models with actual 120hz panels (JU7100, JU7500, JS8500 and JS9000) can not be set above 60hz. It would be cool if a future firmware or may even a one connect box upgrade with DP might allow true 120hz

Not sure about availability in the UK, but here is a pretty comprehensive list of 4k TV's capable of 120Hz at 1080p. My understanding is that this is a true 120Hz input on those TV's listed that have a check in the box.

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/pc-monitor/best

You will notice that none of the TV's that support 120Hz @ 1080p also support 4k 4:4:4 @ 60Hz. Can't have your cake and eat it too!

Yeah, but there is no reason to my knowledge why a unit COULDN'T support both.

120hz at 1080p is about half the bandwidth of 2160p at 60hz, so it's not a bandwidth constriction, and there is nothing about adding 120hz capability at 1080p that would remove 4:4:4 chroma at 4k.

120hz at 4k certainly would be a problem, even if the panels themselves support it, as HDMI2 doesn't have that much bandwidth.

Displayport does though...

Yes, the 960 will be able to provide full color, resolution and refresh rates to these TVs over HDMI2, and is the cheapest video card to be able to do so currently.

That being said, it depends what you mean by "power". If you plan on playing games, I wouldn't expect much of a frame rate from a 960. Even my dual 980ti's in SLI struggle in many titles at 2160p

Looks like the 6700 just recently dropped a 100-150 bucks...amazon includes a br player bundle for the 40in for 2 bucks more. Just grabbed both for 850 tax included...was seriously considering it when it was 900 last week. Did i do good? Im coming from a 3x1080p setup on a over clocked/unlocked 6950. Watercooled/overclocked 970 up next.

If you need a BR player, it's a good deal. I got mine with a BR player and it was a good deal since my wife was wanting one.

Why don't they just stop messing about and make a 240hz HDMI 1.5 4k 0ms lag OLED for £500.

They won't release tech too fast or they will have to drop prices on their existing line-up. Baby-steps is how business works in the tech world. They gotta milk us for all we're worth!

Anyone with a JS9000? Please post your color settings for me. I don't have a professional calibrated tool and want to know the optimal pc settings.

What is the highest resolution that can be shown at 4:4:4 over HDMI 1.4? I'm considering getting one of these TVs as a monitor but I have a not-too-old-yet graphics card (AMD 7950)... My PC upgrade is probably going to happen with the next generation of chips, but I might not be able to resist pulling the trigger here.

As another contribution, I haven't heard any details about the UN40JU6400. Dell is currently selling the for $750 plus a $300 gift card... It looks like it has a lot fewer image processing features, which should be fine by me as a monitor... Anyone have experience with it?

True, but in this case, (at least for the 7500, 8500 and 9000) the native 120hz panel is already in there. DP wouldn't even need any further electronics or technology, as it can natively communicate with panels...

Here's a picture of the new arrival, a 65" JU7500 - barely fits on the desk, but hey - what the hell. Go big, or go home. :D

I just picked up another un40ju6700 from frys. So now I have 3 of them + a 6500.

I paid 402 with my promo code and there is no tax. Haha.

Their deal is 497 + no tax but I think there was an error with the code so a friend and I lucked out and each got one at 397 + $5 recycling fee.

I'm agry cause I paid 602 for my other 2 but it's ok =). A deal is a deal.

Go to Frys and get them today if you get their promo codes and deals!!!!!!!

I paid $1000 for mine, but that's before almost none of us really knew 4:4:4 would work.

Since I live in Florida. Fry's and Microcenter are apart of my imagination.

I'm confused. Does fry sells ju6700 below $500, whereas everybody else quotes $800???

Never mind: found coupon in the parallel thread.

I guess you must be calling me a liar?

I called Fry's 9 am in the morning to find out the model. My GF called and my friend called too.

on all occasions they said the 6700.

The product was on their site this morning and no longer is... Maybe they removed it because of the error? lol..

I know how you feel. The closest stores for us Floridians is Atlanta, GA. I go up once or twice a year to visit family so I often hold off on buying things till then.

Has the blurring problem been fixed on the 40/48JU7000?

Is it possible to run game mode with dimming switched on?

Is it possible to run game mode without blurring?

Can you use the backlight strobing blur reduction in game mode? (prob no)

Does it work at 120hz 1080p? (prob no)

What does running at 1440p look like on this TV? better / worse than 1080p?

Does game mode work at 1080p / 1440p 4:4:4:4 and still have only 21ms lag?

Thanks

Bastards. So they want a copy of the receipt after all. Guess no free S6 for me...oh well. I plan on flipping the sound bar on eBay soon.

I'm a bit surprised there has been very little mention here of the PWM used in these new Samsung 4K displays.

Has anyone noticed any negative effects caused by the very low 120hz PWM dimming frequency?

There has been a lot of mention of it. It's just that the majority of the discussions around PWM occurred much earlier and the people who have been following this thread are finished talking about it. :)

There were a couple of people who were sensitive to the PWM and could see/feel it. Others could sense it but could easily live with it. And yet others weren't affected by it at all. The people who were bothered by it make up a tiny minority of this thread.

Also, it seems to be worse on the 6 series. The way they did the PWM on the 7 series somewhat mitigates the effects. Still, there are a ton of people using the 6500/6700 without issue so in general it's not a problem unless you're very sensitive to PWM.

Did anyone here calibrated ( hardware ) the TV ? Does it help ?
Like i said, i do like the colors, but i wonder if a hardware calibrator will make the colors look better
Thank you
