34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

For Diablo 3, Blizz doesn't officially support 21:9, so you have to use flawlesswidescreen.org and it's supposed to work.

If you're using 2 vid cards (SLI), then you HAVE to run FULLSCREEN only. Can't run Fullscreen (windowed) or it won't use your 2nd vid card. I'll be using this monitor with two 3GB NGTX580 Lightning Extreme's so I am forced to use Fullscreen only.

If D3 won't let me run 3440x1440 Fullscreen using flawlesswidescreen.org's tool, then that will be the end of D3 for me, onto either Tera or WOW again.

Thanks for the info. I currently run two 290 in crossfire and use windowed fullscreen. Diablo 3 utilizes both cards.

You could try "Path of Exile" (free), and Rift (free) also.

Well...after playing a few hours with elder scrolls online...I decided that the monitor isn't what i had hoped. for 999.99 I wanted the pic/color to blow me away...I feel disappointed that when i hooked my achievea back up that the color was better. Now, im not a color expert or have a calibration hardware. One main issues was i didn't feel the black level was good..and I felt esp in the right bottom corner that the black was greyish. Again ultra-wide is awesome in gaming. if this monitor was 600 bucks..I'd be fine with it. But for 1100 b/c i paid for next day shipping, i can't justify that cost with what I'm seeing. I dont know how hard it will be to send this back..but its depressing considering I spent so much time reading up on the monitor and battling yesterday just to get it in. (I was given the wrong tracking number by microcenter).I know lots of you love this monitor...I know im not THAT picky..but I have a 1440p monitor and my 300 buck monitor has a "slightly" better pic/color. Again...if someone can help me with a color profile or have a suggestion to "fix": this i'd love to hear it.

general consensus from the thread is the "Cinema" preset is the best from those provided

Yes I think a lot of us have been curious to see a picture of a 27" 2560x1440 (LG~>korean/cinema display, etc) next to one of these 21:9 's , lined up so that they match.

Ask and you shall receive. Here is my TEMPERED GLASS Qnix EVII next to my 34UM95, from what I can tell they both will match up perfectly if you VESA mount them on nice adjustable stands. Both my displays are using stock stands at the moment.

Sounds like you have (A) a bad panel, (B) buyers remorse for spending $1,000 or (C) Unrealistic expectations. For straight gaming & value use, the Korean 1440p OC displays are unbeatable, but for all around work, productivity, web surfing, light gaming and long duration use the 34UM95 is worth every penny of that thousand.

Did you try the 'Cinema' preset?

Also, if you're willing to spend $1100 on a monitor with next day shipping, you should consider buying a cheap color calibrator to use with it. Once you learn how to calibrate a monitor, it's trivial to make the output of two monitors with the same color space match very closely.

Putting two monitors side-by-side will usually make one look "better" than the other, but once you calibrate you may be surprised as to which one was more accurate to begin with. Manufacturers like to give monitors and TVs ridiculous color profiles to make them "pop" in the store and look more vivid or vibrant than the one next to it. That may be the case with your Achieva.

But as for the backlight, you may have just bought one with poor IPS glow.

Yes I tried that. But for some reason it seemed to put a "haze" over the picture... whats a cheap calibrator? I know nothing bout this.

Bro, I hate to be THAT guy, but you never even gave it a chance. Anytime you change anything...car, display, mouse, wife...opps. if feels off. You simply have to give it a couple of days to adjust to it. I came from a Dell U3011 and I know its personal preference, but I had this for many years and I was concerned I would miss the vert. Long story short , this display is the best ive ever owned and to me displaces 4K completely.

Give it time to adjust and I gurantee you change your tune. Im hooked

PS as for the vesa mount, get a folding , thin swing arm one such as this http://www.amazon.com/Mount-It-Articulating-Bracket-Monitor-Displays/dp/B00898482G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1399670254&sr=8-2&keywords=arm+vesa+mount and you can get it pretty damn close to the wall. Remember bra, where there is a will, there is a way.

I guess you missed all of my posts leading up to the monitor perhaps.

1. I already have a great IPS that's not small (30" 16:10)
2. For my flight sim uses the extra vertical pixels lost is a step back
3. I have an awesome wall mount setup with everything already geared around it how I like.

Your suggestion to "get used to it and you'll love it" as well as "buy a new mount" to me are all non-starters.

Why would I bother to get used to something I've quickly identified as a step backwards for my particular setup?

Just not the right monitor for me, but I'm glad you love it!
I have a feeling a 4k 32" will be perfect for my setup...at some point.

Yes 21:9 is not for everyone. I certainly could not tolerate 2560x1080 21:9, but 3440x1440 is a whole nother story for me. Like Aunt Jamima always says, Monitors are like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you finna like till you drop it like its hot!

I just got mine yesterday. I turned it off last night and when I turn it back on this morning, the right half of the screen has artifacts on it. Basically it looks like there are discolored lines running down every X pixels.

At one point, I tried almost everything and isolated that it is definitely a hardware problem since I tried multiple sources of inputs and even the display HUD had this issue. I tried resetting and it wouldn't go away. But at one point as I was plugging hdmi/thunderport in and out, it magically fixed itself.

I know it's a new monitor and availability is low, did anybody experience something similar? What do you guys think?

On my old monitor I had the same issue when the hdmi cable was not properly inserted. I think its from the cable not from the monitor itself.

Got the monitor..fired up elder scrolls....and..im disappointed...The black levels are bad. Really bad...in the corners its like the black is greyish..Now..I dont have anyting to calibrate it. I just turned the brightness down...please please help me...What can I do to fix this? Im coming from a 1440p Achieva Monitor..

Huh? you need to change a few things. The Blacks are VERY good on this display. First I use Photo setting on the Display itself (Or Cinema) in addition if you use an nvidia card it will be set to RGB in nvidia display settings.

I didnt tweak a thing out of the box and the color and levels were better than my U3011. I did turn down the back light to 85

BINGO. I had this same issue on my TV. I went from a very VIVD Vizio that i never calibrated to a a Samsung F7500. At first I was like OH MY GOD this Samsung looks awful and the colors so dull and poor. Long story short, I professionally calibrated it and now when I look at the vizio I am disgusted that I watched like that for son long.

Calibration is the key. This LG is damn near, a perfect display.

So I'll repeat a question that somebody already asked but didnt seem to get answered. What is a good unit to do the calibration? One that isn't too expensive and still get the calibration correct.

Mine does the same exact thing, the only thing that works is to immediately reboot my computer. That fixes it every time, its the most bizarre thing I have ever seen in a display.

OK...I have a gtx 780. U said nvidia sets it to "RGB"? Should i change this? What should it be set on? Best thing Idid was set it to photo and turn the brightness to 75.

You guys really need to calibrate this epic beast. Here is what you need:

1. USB cable for the "USB UP" port on the back of the monitor.
2. True Color Finder calibration software that comes on the disc with the monitor. This will allow you to "internally" calibrate the display.
3. A colorimeter. I recommend a Spyder from datacolor. Just buy one. You can then calibrate all your displays. They even have a kit for large HDTVs. http://spyder.datacolor.com/display-calibration/

I recommend you install the monitor driver off the disc included with the monitor as well just so the calibration software detects everything correctly.

Calibrate to sRGB spec: 120cd/m2 brightness, 6500K white point & 2.2 gamma.

When the .icc profile is generated, apply it to Windows.

Use an app like Color Sustainer to use the .icc profile while playing fullscreen games.

it seems that my 34um95 is not the same as the other ones here. you all say that out of the box brightness and contrast is 100/100. on mine it is 70/70. the second thing i noticed is that mine has way too low gamma. i had to go to nvidia settings and use nvidia for desktop colors so that the gamma is 1.0. if i dont do this the gamma is like 0,60!? you cannot see anything in dark games. also the photo preset has the most intense colors on mine, not cinema. seems that my display is not the same. using gtx 690 and windows 8.1. when i set displayportv1.2 in the monitor menü the screen sometimes begins to flicker. using minidp to dp.
i have ordered the lg calibrator for my display. i,hope the gamma is right after calibration so that i do not have to use nvidia for desktop colors in nvidia control panel.

Curious where the recent two complaint posts's owner's monitors were ordered from.
.
I got a few hits on my 27" cinema display for $500 locally so I think I'm going to take it.
.
Once I have the $500 in hand I might order one of these to replace the 27" and it's 19" portrait mode side panel.

Thanks for the pic comparison. I will still have a 27" samsung A750D 1080p 120hz at my desk for awhile.

Let me preface this by saying that I will likely be buying this monitor soon, but does anyone else notice that the blue in the sky looks considerably better on the 27 than it does on the 34? Is anyone seeing the discrepancy in colors like I am?

no you're not the only one, the LG looks a bit washed out, but that could be due to it not being calibrated properly.

I think I might have a bad screen, at least the right half. I just had it happen again, it has to warm up before the artifacts go away by itself.

To the above poster, I would definitely get that swapped out. I can't see the entire pic on my poor 13" MBA screen, but looks totally unacceptable :p Oh well, it happens, hope it isn't too hard for you to get it changed for another one.

Are you guys seriously trying to judge the picture quality between the 34UM95 and qnix based on my shitty Galaxy S3 camera phone photo?

Ok #1 The desktop background is 2560x1080 so its non native.
#2 The picture was taken with my cell in shitty lighting conditions
#3 The qnix color presets were waaay over saturated with torch brightness as it was only hooked up for the photo.
#4 The 34UM95 was on cinema mode with brightness set to only 10 as that is comfortable for my eyes.
#5 The photo quality was further degraded by photobucket
#6 The 34UM95 looks better in person vs the qnix as its color pallette is 10x more in depth.

If it's not too much trouble, could we get a list of vendors that have the 34um95 in stock? I know I, for one, am having difficulties finding any. I was going to order from TigerDirect last night but decided to wait until this morning to find out that it was sold out... Hopefully it will also help others until this monitor becomes more widespread.

That's excellent and really good to hear. The picture makes the QNIX colors look considerably better, but if you say the LG is better in person, makes me feel much better about it.

I picked up the LG 32UM95 today at Microcenter for $999 before tax.

It's a nice monitor and I fell in love with it when the sales rep showed me the old Mac Mini driving the display at 3440x1440. Well, I bought it and a thunderbolt cable (LG is too cheap to include either the thunderbolt cable or the USB uplink cable). The monitor is pretty good, but my unit seems to suffer from back light bleed on the left half of the screen. It's very noticeable on dark scenes. Also, there are some quirks with the thunderbolt linkup. For example, when the monitor changes display resolutions, it disconnects all the downstream thunderbolt devices and then sort of restarts itself and takes the new resolution.

The split screen is nice and everything, but you'll need to force a custom resolution on your computer to not have a blurred image.

My 2012 Macbook Pro with the retina screen is able to drive the 32UM95 at 3440x1440 and a Samsung screen at 2560x1440. I can hook up a third screen, but I'll have to use the HDMI connection.

Ok..im a special kind of stupid...for some reason the pc didnt load up the defeault lg34um95 iic profile..it still had my other one...looks MUCH better...now...where do i find the 6500k setting? someone said to do that?

Every lcd monitor I have bought all came out of the box with brightness set at 100%. Seems every manufacturer does this for some odd reason. So for those complaining about 100% brightness setting out of the box I say its normal and to be expected. You will have to set it to what your eyes feel good at.

Its hard to say who will have this monitor in stock and when. Supply is low at this early stage. Its going to take time for LG to get retailers fully stocked since demand is high right now and production is just now getting going. So far the stores we do know that does carry/offer the UM95 (the ones I have seen or heard anyway) so far is:

Newegg
Amazon
Tiger Direct
Microcenter
B&H

As of this posting only Microcenter has them in stock but it is dependent on the store in question and Microcenter is only located in so many states so not widely available. We're just going to have to keep our eyes open and pass it along when we see the stores get a delivery in. :)

Great, I appreciate it!

Does calibration tweak the user-accessible settings available in the UI, or are there hidden settings it accesses?

If it only tweaks what's user-accessible, can those of you who have calibrated the display share your settings (from all menus) -- just so the rest of us can try them out and see?
