i was on toms hardware and they kept on referring to logitech's z-5300's asthe best 5.1 out there...but hte z680s have more power and features...so i was wondering what my little noggen wasnt comprehending...
here's the concl. of the art.:

and here's logtech's very plain speaker page:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/productlist&CRID=18&countryid=19&languageid=1

it shows the 680s clearly on top....and for more loot too.

for those of you interested in the media PC, think about the following device--it doenst stream vid or PVR, but it does take PC speakers and allow them to be used for the home theatre system--direct into your components--dolby dig, dts, etc.

i was thinking of modding an x-box and using this item...that's like $400 for all the streaming, with HQ sound, etc., you could ever ask for...but i might go ahead and build a small form factor machine for the PVR capability. Iwas thnking a shuttle with an athlon 1700+ might do the trick...and with my old radeon aiw8500 it might actually be able to keep up with mpeg2....

advice is appreciated..but that's, i suppose, for another post.

first of all don't trust toms hardware too much

2nd of all, they probably just meant the 5300's were the best 5.1's for the money, cuz they're a lot cheaper

I've not actually heard either, but, from what I hear the 680s are better speakers, but cost a whole lot more. I also keep hearing rave reviews about the 5300s. People seem to absolutely love them, especially as you can get them for under 150$. So if you need the best sound, spend the money and get some klipsch ultras or 680s, otherwise get the 5300s.
