Currently my 7MC computer is using an x3 8450 (2.1ghz) and my WHS machine is running on an x2 7750 (2.7ghz). Neither was designed that way, I just built with what I had at the time. I actually need to rebuild both since I'm moving my WHS to a smaller case and my 7MC is acting up (I think the HDD is dying). I'm wondering if switching the processors would be of any benefit. The media center might benefit from some extra gigahertz and the home server might benefit from more than two cores. Otherwise the two processors in general seem to be pretty similar in performance. Any thoughts? Does WHS or the media center app do much multi-threading in general?

In general, really no difference between either CPUs in either setup.

EDIT: On second thought, the higher clock speed might help in the HTPC. However, can't remember if the X2 7750 was significantly faster clock for clock than the X3 8450.

They are the same architecture I believe so it really just boils down to clocks or cores.
