Will this be enough power?

Hey everyone,

I always notice people on here with PSU's pumping out more than a kilowatt of power. Here's the machine I am planning to build:

Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth x58

CPU: Intel i7 950
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211

Video Card: Radeon 6870

HDD: SSD and a 1.5TB HDD

Memory: 6GB Tri channel

Blu ray drive

Case: Antec 900
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...129021&cm_re=Antec_900-_-11-129-021-_-Product

PSU: OCZ 700 WATT

---

Note: I plan to connect 2 or 3 monitors to that video card.

So here's my question... is the 700 watt OCZ PSU enough to power the components I listed even under load? I do not plan to overclock this machine and I am only going to run the one video card. It seems to me 700 watts would be plenty to power a machine such as the one I've listed...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me

You'll be fine. If you want to add another video card however, it will be very risky and you will want to look into what the amperage of the psu is on the 12v rail.

I concur with this 100%

Also, I would recommend ditching the Antec 900 case as it is not $115 shipped. There are significantly better cases out there for the same price:
$80 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K58 ATX Case
$90 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K56 ATX Case
$90 - Cooler Master CM690 II Advance ATX Case
$90 - Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li PC-60FN ATX Case
$110 - Lian Li PC-7B Plus II ATX Case
$100 - Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B ATX Case
$120 - Velocity Micro GX2-W Silver Classic Aluminum Case with Side Window
$110 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Full Tower ATX Case

What is wrong with that OCZ PSU? Besides the fact it is on the weak side of wattages...

Actually, it flunked [H]ardOCP testing at more than 550W at the [H]'s standard internal testing temperature of 45°C (inside the PSU itself). It can deliver the full 700W - but at an internal operating temperature of a slightly lower 40°C (which is what OCZ rated it at). But PSU innards are much more likely to run at 45°C to 50°C.

In addition, it costs too much money for the quality it delivers, especially since several 600 and 650 W PSUs perform better than that OCZ "700W".

Ok, so the PSU didn't pass hardocp's rigorous testing... which PSU in the 700-800 Watt range has passed their testing that you can recommend?

You don't need a 700-800W PSU. That's why I gave you the recommendations I did earlier. If you are willing to look at more expensive options, I can give you other suggestions as well.

when I put my system through coolermaster's calulcator I was told I need 480 watts (which includes a buffer) and this is my system

i5 750
4 hdd's
1 burner
8 gig ram (4 2 gigs)
1 pci card
1 pci-e card
1 8800GT 512
3 case fans
I ended up buying a 600watt psu with a single 12v rail so I know I wont overload part of a multi 12v rail.

1000 watt psu's look nice and all but the cost is unreal.

my old 500 watt psu had higher ratings tho for 3.3v 5v and 12v yet was 100 watt lower capacity.
