Wierd IP needs changed

i was workign with a compute rthat was being hooked up with a router along with 3 other comps. the other 3 were working and had appropriate IP addresses.

the 4th has no connection and has a weird old IP address. It wont reset and get a new one. what can we do. OS is XP
 
If the weird address is 169.x.x.x then it's an autoconfiguration address. Make sure your cables are plugged in correctly (change the port that machine is plugged into on the router/switch), replace the cable, and check your drivers for the NIC.
 
we changed port but not cable.......... we'll try that. anythign else? ill have to check the ip next time we go to thier house
