I apologize if I ask this question in the wrong forum, but I couldn't decide where to place it.

There seems to be a growing trend of using the letter 'i' in front of ANY new product. I think the trend started with the ipod, although the letter i had been used for other products before the ipod (such as the ipaq)

ipod
iMac
iGoogle (when I log onto my personal homepage, it says iGoogle)
iLife
and a slew of others

Why 'i'? And why for everything?

doesn't it mean as in you? My life = iLife and so on? first person talk kinda

First "i" desktop = imac 1998 Advertised as the quickest way to the internet. Out of the box and onto the internet in 2 steps.
First "i" laptop = ibook 1999 One of the first mainstream notebooks with integrated wireless

i = internet

After that, it was just too damned cool to stop.
