I've been running an Adaptec 5805 with 8x 2TB HGST drives for a while but because in my infinite wisdom I originally had the drives split into 2 arrays, 4 drives in each array in Raid 5. Well I've managed to put enough data on each array that I can no longer move one arrays data to the other in order to tear down one array and expand the other. So that being said I was looking at grabbing an Adaptec 5085 and a SE3016 off ebay relatively cheap and buying 10 2TB drives off Newegg. The question comes down to, which of the following drives would be best (the drives are refurbs):
Western Digital RE4-GP WD2003FYPS 2TB 7200 RPM - $60
Hitachi GST Deskstar 7K2000 0F10311 2TB 7200 RPM - $55
HGST Ultrastar A7K2000 HUA722020ALA331 2TB 7200 RPM - $60
Hitachi GST Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723030ALA640 (0F12450) 3TB 7200 RPM - $85
If I go with the 2TB then if I ever wanted I could play with zfs or refs by replacing the 5085 with a LSI SAS3801E HBA I have laying around. However the sale on the 3TB is tempting at the price/GB.
All opinions/suggestions welcome.
