It would help a lot if you mentioned what the router in question was.
It all depends on what the manufacturer decided to implement and support. I know that some routers will allow you to do exactly this, but you need to read the product specs to be sure.

It really depends on the firmware for the USB. Some routers use the USB for the printers.

Why don't you borrow or buy a USB hub and try it?
They are like $5 to $10 these days. If it doesn't work, you can use it for other things.
