Upgrading from 5870 to 6970-> re-install 11.6?

I'm about to receive my new 6970. I'm currently running a 5870 w/ cat 11.6. Should I be uninstalling the drivers/card and then reinstalling for the 6970 or can I just swap the cards? No problems with cat. 11.6 so far..

i went from 5870->5430->6970 all with the same drivers installed. no problems!

That's not what the manufacturer's recommend. They say to uninstall the driver and install again after the new card is installed and is how I have always done it.

Should be fine just using the same driver. However, it's not like a quick uninstall and reinstall could harm anything.

You should definitely remove the drivers before installing the new card. The signatures will be different which can cause problems.

It's not like it's a major bother to do it, and it's better to be safe.
