I have a Windows XP Pro with two nic. One is connected to a corporate domain. The other is connect to an switch with some other workgroup based computers. I can see both networks from windows explorer the domain network is fast, but the workgroup takes 30 seconds to display the computers. The domain is DHCP and the workgroup is fixed IP's. I tried changing the order in advanced network settings - to no avail. Any help - please?
Thanks,
Tim

So, this separate workgroup network with fixed IPs, is your nic that is connected here has a default gateway setup on it? If so that is probably your problem. Windows XP, and most other OSes for that matter, don't like having two default gateways on separate subnets.

Is there some reason you can't route to the workgroup subnet on your domain connected LAN? No router to do that? That would make things a lot simpler.

There is only a default gateway for the domain NIC the other is empty. The idea is: I only want the two nic computer to have direct access to the workgroup domain. It needs to be pretty much hidden from the other domain. If I use a router will I still be able to hide the workgroup? Again I can connect to the workgroup and view directories it just takes 30 seconds to see the computers from the network, every time I click on the workgroup name.
Thank you,
Tim

another 30 seconds to view workgroup computers is actually pretty fast for a workgroup. I thought you meant like minutes or something. I wouldn't complain about that. :)

As for the routing and being able to segregate things, that is why you have a router. :) You would setup ACLs that prevent the networks from seeing each other while still being able to get on the internets and the like.

Ok, so thirty seconds is not bad? Then a router doesn't help since the workgroup is pretty hidden behind a second NIC. True?
