Do thermal pads live forever, or do they have to be changed every year or so?
I'm just giving some maintenance to my watercooling gpu block

Temperature getting hotter? I'd replace if temps are unacceptable for your particular piece of hardware/processor.

What GPU is it?

Might want to see if there is a copper shim available so you can get rid of the RAM pads completely.

Most thermal pads are absolute trash.

You can either get trash pads or expensive not very soft pads.

If you get good pads, you have to make sure to get the exact right thickness (with squish factor).

Bypass the pads and get some U6 Pro and be done with it..... Thermal putty takes out all the guess work.

they got a new one now called UX pro, 16.8W/m.K but its pricey!
in my experience when trying UX Pro it is almost too thick and hard to get the thickness right.... That stuff does not have alot of give and can cause poor contact between the cooler and die... At least on my 7900 xtx. The U6 Pro is "softer" and has alot more squish factor in my experiences. Either are a fine product though and they take the hassle out of finding the "right" pads for the application. I will never go back to buying pads.

** SnarksDomain on youtube has a lot of useful info when it comes to putty/pads/paste
