I have an Intel motherboard that I suspect is faulty.

Gateway esx500s

Power supply tests fine--used a tester--all numbers are within range.
Hard Drive is good
No video
Tried a video card in it--no video.
Does not shut off with one push of the button....Have to hold button to shut off.

I suspect the MOBO, but I do not have the steps to follow do do the testing of the mobo or the CPU. Can anybody direct me to a Thread or an article that gives me the steps ?

thanks

pull the cpu, install a known good one preferably of the same type/speed. reset the bios before you do it by shorting the pins. remove the mobo and check theres no errant screws shorting the board underneath too. If its still no dice after that toss the board

ok, if i find a CPU to install, should I worry about blowing the chip ? I found the MOBO in china for $75 (incl shipping) and the CPU in CT for $13.

thx for the steps to check the mobo.... will give it a whirl.

I found the same mobo in china--ordered it. I found the CPU in CT--ordered that too.

Of course, one of the new parts is faulty too...

I did find a site that offered a great flow chart. This looks to answer my original question:

http://www.fonerbooks.com/cpu_ram.htm

tks for the help...hope this helps somebody else out there.
