Notepad containing: Wscript.echo "My very first script."
Saved as a .vbs file.
I can run this from a command prompt without issue. However, when double clicking on that vbs, it opens and closes and does not kick out a box with "My very first script."

How could I screw this up so early on? Ideas?

Are you sure the command window isn't opening and closing so fast you can't see it?

As already stated, the script is running but there is no pause in the script to keep the window open.

Err, sorry this is for .bat files not .vbs

Edit: just tested the script, seems to be working for me. Try running as an admin?

Works on my test XP SP3 and test W7 machines, just not my main XP SP3 machine.
Probably reimage time!

Thanks peoples.

Re-imaging doesn't strike me as being the best way to get this resolved.

When I run it in windows 7 I get:

Yep yep, that is what I get on my XP and Win7 test machines. Just not my main XP machine. Its weird I guess :D.

Maybe it's a different (older?) version of the "Windows Script Host" thingy on the XP box that's it's not working on and so it's running it at command prompt rather than the GUI dialogue box.

If you look at the file properties on it on that XP box, or create a shortcut and look at the shortcut file's properties there might be a "close on exit" tick box on the "program tab" or another tab. Uncheck that if it's there.
