i downloaded a video and it was crappy so i wanted to delete it. It says it cannot delete it and is running with another program. so it wont delete. ive tried restarting comp many times, ive tried norton utilities, adaware, virus scan, and ive tried deleting it in safe mode and still no luck.

Stop downloading porn.

But anyways, try to close any of the pgroams you downloaded it iwth or any file sharing programs, or players that may be using the file.

You can try opening notepad and creating a file with the same name and extension to the exact directory where your problem file is and overwrite with your new file. Then delete that one.

If that doesn't do it, you could go here.

HTH.

lol i swear it wasnt porn but i new somebody was going to say that:D . heres what i did, i took another movie file and but it on my desktop and renamed it to the file i couldnt delete and copyed and pasted that file to where the file i couldnt delete was and it overwrote it and i deleted that one and it worked.

I don't know if it'll work. If its fat32, it should work fine. NTFS is a bit of a risk. I've never done this before, or even played with this. Do it at your own risk, but sounds like a good reason to use Knoppix. If not, how about booting into dos 6, given its fat. Or, worst comes to worst, boot off a windows cd, and use the emergency recovery console. GL

well i did that and i dont seem to have any problems, it got rid of the file, why wouldnt it work?

Sometimes if windows is showing a preview of the file it can lock it and prevent it being deleted. Either turn off preview or delete from dos prompt.
