Street Fighter 6

Trying to learn Cammy combos and it’s a bitch. Especially the jump and spiral arrow type down kick. Going to stay with spiral arrow and cannon strike with a mix of punches and high kicks while sitting down. Does decent damage. Still Iron 4. Finding fighters isn’t simple in my region. Sometimes a US fighter shows up with 300 ping.

Thinking about getting this on PS5 as might have better connection and more players (even though I have cross play on).

Lots of fun to be had with this game. It is such a huge improvement over SF5 that it isn’t even funny. I am looking forward to Akuma. Also never played Rashid but he seems fun as well.

you can follow the level 2 super from end to end and cause burn out on your opponent, even worse you can do as much as 40-50% chip damage depending on when burnout occurs on the screen. Aside from that the character seems more or less ok, but I don't play rashid so I wouldn't know if he has some guaranteed lockdown combos.

Just played him in arcade mode for the hell of it. His eagle spike is basically like a Blanka ball that corners you instantly. In SF6 that's a death sentence for some characters.

I tried playing a few matches with him and got boned. I am just not very good at this game lol.
Got Cammy to Bronze though.

Rashid level 2 super can pretty much turn a whole round in your favor with little effort. Just need to trigger after a knockdown (or di), push in their direction. Use any choice of move to follow tornado. Follow tornado to corner (you can stutter step to extend the effect and add even more drive meter drain/chip damage before reaching corner. If done right, opponent is in burnout, potentially down 40% hp more hp, in corner and ripe for a di, combo string, bait to jump etc. It needs to be fixed asap.

LOL. I know people want to act like the new dev team is bulletproof, but I'm not sure they're actually better, more thorough, or diligent than the last one. They just happened to have the luxury of being able to make the last seasons of SF5 + SF6 with way fewer deadlines and less pressure.

If opponent is in burnout and you start this from the corner, you can 100% chip damage a person to KO. If they take the hit, the potential combo followup can be as high as 7200. Learn the matchup they said, it'll be fine for tournament play they said.

Can E Honda still pick guys up and smash their faces into his fat belly as his grab move? Asking for a friend…

For what it's worth, Rashid isn't that bad in SF6. He still has those dumb guess situations after his DP, but his damage is relatively low. I still have yet to lose more than a round or two off him and have clobbered most Rashids that I've played. He's gimmicky with the multi-jumps, but not as oppressive.

In general, I think I'm finally settling into the game. Gief's still a bad character...but he usually is. Outside of Dhalsim and (oddly) Manon, I do pretty well. I do occasionally still eat too many DI's, but that's kinda Gief's burden to bear since his buttons are slow. I almost always make it up by punishing people that try 'em again. Hopefully he'll eventually get some buffs, or at least a lariat that hits people behind him.

With EVO coming up this weekend, it'll be interesting to see who wins....and how. EVO tends to be the time when people break out busted tech they've been holding back on. So far there haven't been a ton of events with North America, Europe/Middle East, and Asia playing one another, either.

What do you mean busted tech? 🤔

Broken/overpowered techniques.

Yup. In some games that can be something secretive, other times just something overt that people just aren't used to. In the old days of Alpha 2 there was a trick to taking 30-40% of someone's health if they were standing in a certain range. You could activate a custom combo and they couldn't crouch in time. That's an extreme example. Later in SF4, you had character specialists with Gen and Rose using strategies and move sequences people weren't prepared for. Stuff like that. Sometimes it's something huge and hidden, other times it's just something under the radar that just turned out to be super strong.

It's interesting because in Japan they always used to hold back and would only share tech among the top players. It's one reason they were so dominant back in the day. Thanks to YouTube and Twitch, it's tough to keep secrets and pretty much all the top players on all continents have access to most info. In spite of that, we did see some surprises from Birdie and Ed in SF5.

based on the small tourneys the top players have entered so far, super consistent execution has been key. SF6 has been really a "wait your turn" game for me and if you know when your turn is, you can turn around a block string into your own combo. As for making openings, mind games. It's rock paper scissors until someone flinches and screws up.

After thousands of hours practicing a specific character, a player might discover a weird yet very effective combination of moves/mixups that for one reason or another may be very difficult to counter. He keeps it to himself, mastering it in offline practice modes, then busts it out at evo where competitors are not prepared in any way to counter it.

Every geographic pocket of players also tend to have their own style of play. A mixup that a korean player might have an easy time countering, might be hard for a western player to counter, because it may not be used as much in his region of play. Top pros are known to fly around the world to experience different styles of play. (before covid, sadly covid put a huge damper on that)

I saw angry bird beat up sonic fox. Sonic fox is an asshole with JP but it was a pleasure seeing Ken beat up his ass.

Angry bird with Marissa is also ridiculous.

I think I will give up the game and just watch YouTube videos as I don’t feel as bad as I do playing ranked online.

So player base online is solid? I’ve been a fan since 1991 but haven’t jumped on this one yet. Ken is my main.

Watching these evo fights make me think there's a huge disconnect in the skill levels of top level players and the general community. The combo strings they can execute under pressure is insane, and the way they capitalize on the single bad poke is insane.

This is correct for any game that has a high skill ceiling but low barrier to entry. That comment you made has been said many times before word for word, for all manner of games during their pro events.

I'd like to know this too. Is there a good sized online player base still? Especially around eastern standard time evenings?

Online play in SF6 is really good for the most part. It isn't perfect, but if you seek out players with 4-5 bars in the battle hub you'll have a good experience. There are tons of people playing right now, too.

Ensure you limit online search to 4 to 5 bars, set up confirmation for fight and sadly I do discriminate against wireless connections. I would say 99% of my wired fights have been good, but on occasion there has been weird lag spikes where I am moving through molasses and my opponent just has their way with me for a combo or two which is highly suspect. I have seen this happen more often on wireless connection so I'm suspicious of lag cheats. They are rare but when it happens, you can't miss it and you see the ping spike up to like 200+ and it seems always that you are the one that can't do anything while the opponent seems to be moving fine.

Watching the finals for evo. There have been no broken or overpowered techniques so far. It's been one hell of a skill based competition.

EVO top 6 really deserve to be there. The amount of hurt they bring is insane. Didn't see the finals yet.

Fun event for sure. Nothing too crazy, just a display of everything right and wrong with SF6 right now. The first EVO with SF5 was dramatically different from the last few, so it'll be interesting to see what evolves and changes over time. Their production team managed to turn top 6 into a 3.5 hour affair...which I could tell even the announce team was starting to get bored with. "Here's another break, here's the band again, here's a break, LI Joe is pitching burritos, etc." Guilty Gear is a quicker and more one-sided game, but they got through the same number of matches in like 45 minutes.

Going to be honest the guilty gear matches didn't have the same back and forth tension of the sf6 matches. Nothing felt super one sided in that final, it all came down to just nerves causing self defeating mistakes rather than the blockstring fest that was guilty gear. Capcom vs games were a lot like that in the past where you would just pressure until a breakthrough then combo until you repeat the pressure.

Do I have to buy a costume and then replace Ryu w/ a turtle or are there bespoke characters to purchase?

not characters

I don't really care about the TMNT stuff, especially since most of it isn't free. That song that plays on a loop in Battle Hub got old after like 10 minutes, so I'm looking forward to that going away though. For now, the only option to avoid it is to create your own playlist. IMO, a neat gesture would be to have the TMNT arcade games or even TMNT Tournament Fighters available so people could play 'em in groups within SF6. The multiplayer nature of those games would work great.

The 4 costumes cost more than the game itself.... talk about milking dlc for profits.
