Speedstream 5100 Need HELP!

Hey, Im having some troubles with my Speedstream 5100, I cant DC to any friends in AIM or MSN or anything to send some pictures across. Also, I've been collaborating on some musical compositions, and getting things across to the other guy has been tough when im not @ my other house. At my other house (comcast cable) I can connect to everyone, so I know its my modem. Is there any way to open up some ports if im connected DIRECTLY into the modem (no hub/router)?

PLEASE HELP!
