Some users have accused Nvidia of slowing down old graphics cards with recent driver updates. Tech YES City's viewers asked about that issue, and in a separate video, the YouTuber put it to the test. While he didn't find any evidence to corroborate those claims, he did find a discrepancy between new and old results. As it turns out, Spectre and Meltdown patches are slightly, but measurable impacting the performance of some games, and old pre-spectre benchmarks were responsible for at least some of the Nvidia performance deficit claims. This is why you should always make comparisons against fresh results, as we do here at HardOCP.

I got asked about a video testing games made where they showed a GTX 1060 having slower performance after only supposedly receiving a driver update (399.24 to 416.16), after investigating and testing some of the games used, I couldn't replicate the results, and hence put it down to something else, and when disabling spectre and meltdown patches via regedit fixes, I noticed that performance then shot up in Creed Origins....
