I am in need of a 3x LPT port print server.

This would be used to convert Epson TM-88 Thermal Point of Sale printers to Network/IP ready printers.

What I don't know is how exactly each printer is mapped from within Windows.

For example the IP address of the print server could be assigned as 192.168.1.x

But how do you communicate with each individual printer? Is it by a TCP port? (Port 9100 for example).

Most print servers let you hit your printer via port 9100. So would print servers such as a Jetdirect Ex Plus 3 have different ports for each printer? (9101, 9102, 9103, etc). ?

With most print servers you will have a single port and under the que settings on the ports you put the name of the port you want it to go to.

Well the problem is that this POS software that I use has its own Print Spooler software. It does not use the Microsoft Print Spooler. I guess I could try doing a net use "IP +port" to LPTx and see if that works.

From HP JetDirect Documentation:

9100 TCP port is used for printing. Port numbers 9101 and 9102 are for parallel ports 2 and 3 on the three-port HP Jetdirect external print servers.

yes yes yes! Just ordered a JetDirect Ex Plus 3 to test it out on.

woohoo
