I've built my desktops for ages, but I kinda want to get a laptop for the hell of it. Basically I just wanna know if its worth the extra bucks for the mixed hard drives as far as boot times etc. That and any brands or specific models to shy away from in the $600 range.

Thanks in advance :D

I'm partial to the Thinkpad X and T series (especially if you don't want to game all that much on it). If you want to game some then I hear the IdeaPad Y-series is good at the moment, but there are a lot of other good options for gamers as well. The Lenovo Outlet might have some used versions.

Since you have a desktop I'd suggest sticking to a <14" laptop, but you might want something bigger for a specific reason.

Enjoy!

Lenovo bought out IBMs laptop making division (or whatever the correct terms are there). So Thinkpads used to be IBMs but are now Lenovo (quality on some series, like X, T, and W are close to what they were under IBM as well).

Is your budget $600-$700 or thereabouts?
