Even Creative is owning up to the fact that the supposed hardware acceleration advantage of their sound cards is reaping diminishing returns in newer PCs with faster CPUs, GPUs and dhipsets. I don't expect them to completely stop producing cards right away, but I saw this one coming when they licensed their proprietary algorithms to MSI and Auzentech.
Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to buy and HDMI 1.3 Asus Xonar near the end of this year and run X-Fi MB on it to have my choice of Dolby and CMSS3d features running on it along with EAX HD. The best of all worlds? We'll have to wait and see...
