Skyrim Modding Megathread

Those shadows are WAY too dark.

The interior shots look pretty decent, though.

To each his own I suppose, but I find them to be alright.
That picture may have been a bad example due to the shade of the character's skin.

Here's an early morning shot of the same character, facing towards the sun:

And just for show-off, a few pics:

For those who dig the Ebony Armor set, I'd recommend this mod.
I'm not sure if it's compatible with the other armor mods out there (I would assume it is, since it only replaces cubemaps), but the select armor reflections look so much better with this mod.

Version 2.0 of SkyUI is out... sort of. Again, another pre-release version before the more final/bug-free version is released on the nexus, which will probably be soon. This handles the magic menu, containers/barter menus, and inventory menu. :)

In broad daylight, how many times have you found someone's face to be significantly shrouded by their own shadow? Needs more ambient lighting.

^ Definitely is a IPS/MVA vs TN thing or monitor calibration thing. On my Dell, the modded shaders look way too saturated in color, and the shadows are also too dark. The original looks better. On my HP (TN panel) however, I think the modded actually looks better than original.

No wonder there is so much conflict on what looks good on this thread. I'm actually seeing right in front of me right now.

I've been patiently waiting for the new version of SkyUI to come out, good to see that it's going to be soon.

My only issue with SkyUI is that it only allows for "Equiped items at the top", as it's own "sort" method. When selling items at the shop, it's nice to use other sorts (value, or value/weight etc) while still keeping equipped items at the top to prevent from selling.

A minor point, but I still might keep QD Inventory just for that separate instance.

SkyUI plus something like categorized favorites, really makes a word of difference. Just a shame that UI modding is so difficult in Skyrim due to the middleware choices, I feel bad for how much work they have to put in just to get us something that is halfway decent (Very grateful though).

So if you're using an IPS monitor, what would be some basic guidelines for tweaking that ENB setup?

HQ Paper:
I like how it also covers open books.

Ha, gave that a try on my 5760x1200 Eyefinity setup last night and it turned it into a slideshow. Looked pretty good, though. ;)

Did you turn off ENB AO?

And here is a skyrim link for his settings:

Anyone know how to fully uninstall the ENB patch/mod? I tried deleting the files in the Skyrim directory but I still get that annoying text notice in the top left corner of my screen when starting the game.

Make sure you get rid of that d3d9.dll file along with the other 9 files. Most of them are obviously identified as enbsomething or other. There's also two readmes, two license files, and a www. enbedev.com link file. Total of 10 files.

Should be as simple as deleting those files.

That is by far the most awesome mod yet, I can't stop laughing :D

I seem to be the only guy on the internet that cant get FXAA injectors working. i install them and nothing happens.

So what large scale texure and injector mods are the best for someone who wants to maintain frames relatively close to vanilla?

Pick "Lite" or 1024x1024 versions of anything that suits you. Most of the modders that are doing textures offer that variant.

This is arguably the overall best one IMO and he's about to release version 1.3. It even covers landscape so it's the "catch all" for me in addition to using Lush grass, trees, and Vurt's Skyrim Floral Overhaul.

It's mind-boggleing how much of a nightmare tweaking ENB and FXAA can be in this game. I know no ones forcing me to use either of the two but lets be honest, Vanilla defiantly needs some work. When someone posts a screenshot of their game and the ENB settings used and I copy over those files to a fresh Skyrim folder and get blown out lighting as if the sun is 50 feet away and horrible shadows I just don't quite get it.

I might get into trouble for this and I certainly say it with all due respect to its authorbut I still much prefer vanilla with some nice texture mods and a few other mods and such vs anything I've seen out of ENB or tried to generate myself. And yes, I know how to use it. The performance hit isn't worth it, either IMO.

YMMV

Valid point.

I managed to get some pretty decent, imo, looking results using this "mod"

I'll link to some screens from the Skyrim SS thread later.

Another big texture mod:
Skyrim Realistic Overhaul:
The author thought the other large texture packs to be poorly made so I am curious as to how this one looks.

Looks promising but he's going to have a tough act to follow and a lot of catching up to do vs this: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=607

Version 1.3 is already out but for some reason taking forever to get hosted up on the Nexus. He put out both a full version and a patch to jump from 1.2 to 1.3. From the comments I'm seeing on Nexus and his Facebook page, I suspect I'll stick to my usual habits: Completely uninstall old full version and install full new version. Clean. Neat.

Even this got a nice update: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2146

Those are probably the best two overall best "retexture everything eventually" mods.

I'd stopped using the landscape mod because I *think* there was a compatibility issue between it and 2k Textures (first link.) Some other people in the comments areas were thinking so as well. I was having CTDs and other issues that went away after I uninstalled it. I may try it again before too long.

Same author. Seems pretty ambitious.

I wonder if either NMC or the author behind Ojo/Poco Bueno for the Fallout games are going to do any Skyrim work. Doesn't seem like it.

Still waiting to see when DarN will turn up, too.

SkyUI has an update forthcoming.

Nexus upload failed so he put them on megaupload. there are a few mirros up. Just make sure you dont download the lite version or the update if you want the full one.

Hate to say it, but try a fresh install of the game. Nexus Mod Manager makes it pretty easy to re-download texture packs and such. Backup your saves and give it a try? It sucks, I know. I've done it a dozen times, trying to get these injectors working.
