Should I stick with my old soundcard or upgrade?

I have a Hercules Fortissimo 7.1 soundcard. Had it for a few years now. It's been a solid performer.

Will soon be upgrading to a Conroe setup (E6600, 8800GTX, with a Bad Axe 2.) and just wondering 2 things;

1). Is there any compatibility issue with the Fortissimo 7.1 and this motherboard?
2.) If not, is it worth upgrading anyway, to, for example, a Creative X-Fi? Are these newer cards going to give me noticeably better performance on a 2.1 speaker set-up?

Any advice welcome...

Better performance, I don't think so. Better sound, possible.
