Server recommendations

I have a WDTV live box in my kids room in hopes that he can watch movies off my computer.

Im looking for a server to run that will work good to stream video to my WDTV live box.

PS3 media server doesnt work with it, and I dont like Plex(I couldnt figure out how to sort things and it just scattered everything around).

Just point it to the video files via an SMB share. Unless I'm missing something.

I only ever used PS3 media server and it was basically point the server at the directories and it shows those directories on the PS3 in a folder style tree view.

Call me stupid, but I dont even know what SMB is. I tried to use windows media player and add my folders to the library and then stream it that way, but I have thousands of videos all grouped via folders, WMP just views them all at once and on the WDTV live, even if I sort alphabetical, I have to flip through hundreds of pages just to get to a specific video.
