I currently own a Cisco WLC-2106-k9-v2 something or another. I am curious as to what it is used for, and why.

How would I check to make sure it still works 100%?

It was used by my fathers employer at his home and I am trying to figure out why this item, instead of a consumer router.

Wireless LAN Controller (that's the WLC in the model name). Let's you manage a bunch of wireless access points from 1 device.

I've never used one, personally, but I've seen them deployed.

That's what i thought it was for :)

I manage several at work. It can probably handle up to 6 access points, or maybe 12.

Without a LWAPP AP to go with it, it would be hard to test completely.

2106 does 6 AP's. They're an older model, only have 10/100 ports. New model shave gigabit ports. You can put a LWAP firmware on a autonomous AP, I've done it with AP1130's.

You should probably just send it to me ;)
