Region free DVD

I'm currently living in Israel for the year, and after renting a dvd from blockbuster I was reminded that DVD's have region codes. Is there any software, SAFE firmware, or anything of the sorts that can make my dvd player region free? I have some american dvd's that I watch as well, otherwise I would just keep it on region two for the year.

Sorry, can't help you here, other than VLC (which generally works for everything).
 
Here's another vote for VLC. It ignores region coding so you won't have to change the region for your drive.

Also, as a side-note, region coding is only for marketing purposes. There is no prohibition against using region-free software or making your hardware region-free, unlike breaking DVD encryption.
