I was looking around for my first gaming headset and thought to first get some opinions/recommendations. First off, my budget is 50-80$. I was looking at the Sennheiser PC155 and PC160 and liked what I saw. Can I get an opinion on these 2 models and maybe some other recommendations for my price range? Thanks :)

I don't know of much better without getting into studio quality headsets. The senn's should fit the bill.

I have a few friends who play DOD:source and such in league play. They swear by the Senn PC160s (I keep trying to get them to step up into the high end audio world but they refuse). They even love them for music playback so I think they're a good bet.

I am going to recommend one that I actually like (as compared to what some guys use). Being a headphone guy, most are not that great, but they are getting better.

Currently my favorite headset is the SteelSound 5H v2. Not the v1, they are crap, but the v2 is actually pretty good.

well ok, the Steel Sound headset looks like a good product, will look at those and the Sennheiser line. Thanks for the feeback

I've had the Senn's. They're a good, solid stereo headset. My only gripe is that the cord is too long. After much abuse my mic stopped working and then I accidentally snapped part of the ear frame. Looking for a new 5.1 headset now..

BTW, the HD555 are amazing for gaming. I use them with an XFI and it sounds like 7.1 even though there are just two drivers.

I really do not understand why you would get a true 5.1 headset (like the razers) that reduce sound quality when the HD555 has way better sound quality and still is just as good at surround sound.

I already have two Sennheiser HD sets and a PC set. I do not like the HDs for gaming. Also, I use a number of VOIP applications along with in game voice chat. I prefer to keep cord clutter to a minimum so I avoid standalone microphones.

My vote is to open your budget just a tad and get a pair of HD555's from Amazon for $93 (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD...r_1/102-5340209-2995323?ie=UTF8&s=electronics) and a Zalman clip on mic for $7 (http://www.xoxide.com/zmmic1.html)

EDIT: AT A500's would be a very nice choice also (http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?products_id=319) if you prefer a closed headphone.

i agree, imaging and soundstage sucks on all headsets, so like he said, get the 555's or maybe if you want to bump up to the 595 it would be a smart idea.

and thats supposed to be a good mic.

and for closed cans, the A500 and up would fit the bill nicely

Icemat Siberias ~ they're really cheap compared to their $29.99 price tag at buy.com now (used to be $79.99).

Got my Siberia for $10, they are good for the price, but I wouldn't pay $30+ for them.
