Ubisoft is bringing out 4 new and updated editions of Rainbow Six Siege. But there is a twist aside from the normal "Season Pass." The "Starter Edition" of the game, available starting Feb. 13th for $19.99 (PC Only), has an "Extended time required to unlock Operators." Reading the "Starter Edition FAQ" tells us that it takes 12,500 Renown or 300 R6 Credits to unlock 1 Operator; Approx. 15 hours to unlock 1 operator using in-game Renown, vs. the "Standard Edition" ($59.99) and above taking Between 500 to 2000 Renown to unlock 1 Operator; Approx. 0.5- 2 hours to unlock 1 operator so between 12-30x more grind for buying the "Starter Edition." If that wasn't enough, they are adding loot boxes in the form of "Outbreak Collection Packs"
This is one of the biggest slaps in the face to gamers I've seen, and with the last couple years being the way they were, that's saying a LOT. Screwing over people with the "Starter Edition" and then charging $130 for the "Pay to Win" version with 3 years worth of boosters, and a 10% shop discount for a 3 year old game. And here I was thinking Ubisoft was getting better.
Over 25 million players have experienced the intensity of Rainbow Six Siege, and if you're interested in seeing what all the excitement is about, you'll soon have an array of new editions packed with bonus content to choose from. Read on to see the details of each edition so you can be ready to jump in when they become available on February 13.
