RAID bays where you can use one of the drives not RAIDED?

Is that possible? Say, running two SSD's in RAID0, and a third SSD by itself. Or is it cheaper/smarter to just get a two drive RAID0 enclosure and then a seperate 2.5" enclosure?

What kind of enclosure are you talking about? The hot-swap bays that you can install into any normal case or some sort of external enclosure?

Yes, it's totally possible...

You create a logical RAID volume of the two SSDs. Then create a second logical volume using only the 3rd drive...

An external bay. Okay but I emailed drobo about their thunderbolt mini, they said app drives have to be involved in the raid setup..
