I want to encrypt my laptop drive and was planning on getting a Seagate FDE disk until the Momentus XT was released, now I think that's the way I want to go. That leaves me looking at software. PGP is a little pricey so I looked at TrueCrypt and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it, or any other FDE software I should look at.

I hadn't seen DiskCryptor, thanks for that. I ended up going with it to check it out, so far so good. Anyone have an idea if I should expect a hit to my battery life with all of the OTF decrypting?

You might have a small hit on battery life. I have a 7tb array encrypted with trueCrypt, and while watching HD movies, TrueCrypt process never goes above 1% CPU usage (albeit with a Xeon 5520, a bit more power than most laptops).

I have been playing with this volume for about a month now, and will be planning to do FDE on my laptop once I got familiar with it.
